Vietnam does not have a true winter yet we use the word "Mua Dong" to represent a sad and lonely season. Anyone care to explain why?

This is one of the songs of Lieu Hanh Cong Chua in the 16th century regarding winter

"Khí đen mờ mịt toả non sông, hồng về Nam xong, nhạn về Nam xong! Gió Bắc căm căm tuyết mịt mùng. Tựa triện ngồi trông, tựa triện đứng trông. Sưởi lò mặt vẫn giá như đồng, ngồi chẳng yên lòng, nằm chẳng yên lòng! Dậy xem phong cảnh lúc trời đông. Hoa quên lạnh lùng ! Người quên lạnh lùng !

This song must be written in the north since snow does not exist in the South.

The song talk about snow in Vietnam. This can only happend if the Siberian front is really strong and long lasting.

Vietnam is a tropical country, but its northern region is sub-tropical with a rather cool winter. The strong cool wind is enough to make the poorly dressed, mal-nourished, skinny, outdoor people feel pretty cold. People would retreat into their houses to keep themselves warm, thus having less chance to meet and see other people. The gray sky, cool wind, and empty streets make people, especially single, romantic youngsters feel all the more lonely and sad. People tend to consume more warm tea and hot liquor, not only to keep warm, but also as a stimulant for their poems and songs composing.

I'm watching on History Channel right now about the "Little Ice Age" that lasted for 500 years. They talk about mostly how it affected Europe and N. America tho and all those famines, diseases, deaths due to cold climate changes. This started in the 14th century and on. I'm sure Asia was affected by this too so most likely N. Vietnam might experienced with snow for some time also.

Didn't the North Pole get melted into pieces due to just 50 years of the recent world "industrialization"?

Haven't watch it yet but when it's available on the net, I'll watch it.
