Buddha is an Indian really, and if anything he's perhaps Southeast Asian (Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam/Burma) looking.

I wouldn't say India is westernized, it is becoming westernized, but I'd say on a slow, small scale. And I think it would be extremely hard to reserve this. Face it, to everyone, being westernized is the cool, desired thing unfortunately.

It doesn't have to be Westernize. Modernize is a perfectly suitable word. It has nothing to do w/ the west, we are modernizing. And that's a good thing. Same thing different terminology!

Its gonna be very hard for India to modernize if you ask me. Poverty has just been too ingrained in Indian society.

As for westernize, can anyone tell me what modernized nation hasn't become westernized? Even countries like South Korea, China and Japan have bits of western influence in them. I don't think westernization is a good thing, but it seems so hard to modernize without becoming westernized at the same time.

Why does India need to modernize in a traditional since? It could use alternative technology and cradle to cradle Communities to help many of disaffected.
