My fellow Filipinos, why are some of us racist against other filipinos because their Spanish descent? Come on guys! We dont live in 1898 anymore! The Filipino race is a product of centuries worth of mixing. I beleive some Filipinos only consider u a Filipino if your of typical Malay stock. I beleive that is wrong just because a Filipino looks Chinese, Spanish or Pacific Islander doesnt mean their not real Filipinos! Im gonna say it again the Filipino race is a product of centuries of mixing. Filipinos come in different shapes, colors and sizes. Did I say that Filipinos of Spanish descent aren't true Filipinos? Nowhere in my post did I say that. By the way, do you yourself know what a Filipino/Filipina? What makes one a Filipino? Sociologists even have a difficulty answering that question so don't pretend you know either.

I asked you the question because the thread title does not take into consideration the fact that racism/ discrimination is two-way. Filipinos of Malay stock may discriminate Filipinos of Spanish descent and vice versa. However, it's more likely Malay-looking Filipinos who have experienced racism rather than Spanish descent Filipinos. The media even glorifies them or any mixed celebrity. Do you know that "mukhang katulong" is used as an insult and it refers to Filipinos of Malay stock?

Just last Wednesday, I went to an orphanage for my institution visit and the administrator shared that most Filipinos of whatever color/size/shape usually want to adopt or requests for Mestiza babies. That is their first requirement aside from a healthy baby. I doubt there has ever been a case wherein a Tisay and healthy baby was not adopted just because she is Tisay. So tell me, are Filipinos in general racist against them?

Do you know that Filipino sociologists still believes that our country is colonial in nature? My professor in Philosophy Dr. Ongchango from UP also holds the same opinion. It may not be 1898 but we are not completely free from colonial mentality. And who would I believe? You or people from the academe?

You are a Filipino but you do not live in the Philippines. Hence, you have an outsider's view whether you grew up there in the US or you migrated just recently. Whatever you read, heard, or watched in TV is different from experiencing things directly. It's like a person looking at an aquarium, you will never know what it's like to live like a fish inside it.

I do not use color/race as a basis of Filipino-ness. I have some Filipino-Chinese friends who are prouder than some Filipinos I know who are of Malay stock. Don't put words into my mouth because if I see you in person, susungalngalain kita.

Sorry bai, that's the way it is. But, there is also favoritisms to Spanish people as well. Spanish people are also - rascist in a way. I remember my dad telling me a story - he was invited to a country club and he came wearing shorts. Then he heard a Spanish guy speaking in Spanish "Why are those Filipinos and Chinese wearing shorts in our club". In Bisaya we call that "hilas"

Carson boy, no offense, but if I remember correctly, phenotypical slurs are often thrown at the "brownies" like us. In the PI, people don't go "ang tangos na ilong mo...pangit ka" or "gusto ko yung talagang maitim, ang pangit ng maputi"...in fact it's the other way around. still today. In fact MANY pinoys claim they are Spanish descended to this day...with or without, true or false, evidence. (same goes with saying I'm Filpino...chinese blah blah blah)

The problem why other people here are often against mestizos is because there are a few of those people that may or may not really have Spanish (european) blood, claim it so, much like they claim all kinds of other $hit. Instead of just being Filipino. Cuz in the end no matter if you think you're Asian or Pacific Islander, Hispanic, homosexual, retarded, El Shaddai, pink, blue, black, etc. we're all Flips in the end.

If a Mestizo consider himself more Filipino than Spanish, then I have no problems with him whatsoever. i dont think they are racists because most would even want to have spanish descent. they like the mestizo kastila look. a way to get a better skin tone and a better facial features plus an added height.
