first you should know there are very few native japanese here.
i have only confirmed a few including myself. or may be nowadays it's only me.
Japanese people in general are indifferent to foreigners including Mongolians.
Few have visited Monglila and know Mongolians well.
currently, people would first think of those great Sumo wrestlers when they think of Mongolia.
Those great wrestlers including impeccable Yokozuna Asashoryu and the presumed next yokozuna, hakuho, are famous mongolians in Japan. I appreciate contributions those mongolians wrestlers have made in Sumo.
Considering the populartity of sumo and the great success of Mongolians in this field, i am sure there are many people feel familiar with Mongolia.
There are not many foreigners who make such significant impact in popular sports in Japan as Mongolian does. this should not be understated.
