^Japanese? It's been done already. But rest assured, Japanese wave will never be spread in Mainland China. Well, for obvious reasons.

And Vietnamese? You really don't hear much about Viet entertainment...

Toki: oh yeah, Korean movies rock. They're short, unlike the long @$$ dramas, hence more enjoyable lol. Tony Jaa totally kicks @$$. Muay Thai... mmm delicious *sounds of bone crunching*

Chinese government is fearful of Korean cultural invasion. Besides, Chinese government threatened Korea there will be no Korean programs in Chinese TVs because SBS, KBS, and MBC all decided to produce dramas about Goguryeo kingdom.

Most pop culture imports are garbage.

I can't stand the crap they put on the Radio and TV, I think you'll learn more watching monkeys and apes jump around in the zoo than watching the mindless braindraining rubbish they put on the tube.
Trollmaster21
There is an economic theory called the "law" of diminishing marginal returns. The law said the more people consume something, the less satisfy they become with it. For example, if you play the same computer game again and again or listen to the same song over and over again, the less satisfy you become with it. At some point you just give up and go for other new things, because those things that you once liked become bored and offer no entertainment value. Korean movies and TV series are same things. Chinese people are sick and tired of them after they consume massive quantities of them for couples of years. Korean movies and TV series would disappear just like the Japanese movies and TV series wave in China in the 1980’s. lol

I'm glad that it's over...I never liked Korean drama's much.

I think the next big wave will either be Taiwan or China...maybe even Japan because it seems like the "Japan anime" look is getting quite poppular.

I'm really not into any of the world's tv shows that I know of. I find the dramas, talk shows, and sitcoms to be redundant. They don't have much surprises like they used to. This was why reality tv was gaining popularity, but I think people are getting tired of those as well.

I'm sad to see the Crocodile Hunter go, but frankly, I wish he let us see more of the animals in their natural ways, instead of interfering with them too much. It's a matter of preference. I like to learn more about the animals way of life. Nowadays, the Discovery Channel in Asia is concentrating too much on typhoons.

heh, precisely why it's called the "wave." i thought it already died down a long while ago?

besides, even i have to admit k dramas are starting to suck on a whole, with a very few exceptions. I feel like rattling the PD's everytime I encounter yet another inane plot. icon_redface.gif

Or I could say, "the hunter became the hunted." icon_smile.gif

Here's my opinion on Korean, Chinese, and Japanese dramas: I sense that more and more Korean dramas are losing their touch in reality. They tend to overreact over little things. In addition to that, I'm tired of watching people being hospitalized. I enjoy watching Chinese martial arts, but tend to fall asleep when the film turns to a dramatic scene. Japanese dramas have creative and unique stories, but something about them gets boring after three or four episodes. A J-animation character has more different facial expressions than a real-life Japanese entertainer does. That's why Japanese animation is more fun to me.

Korean Wave wouldn't be gone for at least another 10 years, why? First there are no other big dogs to produce dramas like MBS or SBS. Yes, Japan or China got the resources to produce these kinds of large budget dramas, however they don't have the right plot for it.

Second, plastic surgery is a very common thing in Korea, espeically among most of the female actress. With that, it is much harder for another group to compare with the Korean actress.

Third, the language itself plays a very important role too. You simply wouldn't sit on your @$$ and watch 20 hrs of TV show that speaks in a language you wouldn't prefer or at least not popular.

Fourth, a country would need enough history and culture to produce a good drama. Advertising also plays a huge role, which means the media must work together to promote a trend.

Lastly, I know that in China, Korean Drama started long long time ago, may be in the late 80's. It just that it wasn't as popular as today. So, Korean drama will remain in China as usual.

Japan could produce K-Drama quality, but in Asia, there is a big stereotype on Japanese people.

As for China, I don't think they could be in a leadership position as far as the media goes. Taiwan or Hong Kong, their media copied a lot from the Koreans. Many times, they even have to pay fees to copy some of the Korean TV shows (not dramas) or Korean pop music.

Lastly, you really have to say, East Asians on an average don't pay attention to the Southeast Asian media.

If I could lead the trend, i will actually promote Central Asia, countries or regions like Uzbek, Kazakh, Xinjang, Kyrgy. I would also promote Asian Americans in the U.S. back to Asia, making Asian Americans more popluar.

You are retarded~

Chinese actresses on an AVERAGE aren't as pretty.
Right plot: story, settings, place, culture, history, family values, food.
Japanese's stereotype: weird, small skinny, misleading wars or history, deeply admire westerners

Oh did I mention about Central Asians to the rest of you. For the past few years, Koreans are turning their attention to Kazahstan and Uzbezistan. A lot of countyside people actually went there and marry some of their women.

Matter a fact, they are very attractive, they all have a European Asian look.

K-dramas and movies are two different things. I don't think Korean movies have been a great part of the Korean wave. Korean films are quite diverse. You can't easily pass your verdict about what Korean movies are like even after watching 20 of them. Some of you movie geeks might know what I mean. Just like you don't touch Hollywood movies with one broad brush. And Korean movies got western followers as well. As for Korean dramas, I don't care as much. I just watch really popular and most talked-about ones occasionally.
