Korea has the highest IQ average in the world, higher than Japan and all the rest of the Western Developed Countries. Hong Kong and Flanders being 1-2pt higher than Korea, but since both are not a country, Korea remains 1st.

National IQ based on arithmetic means calculated by Lynn and Vanhanen (2002), in parentheses PISA scores of "mathematical competence" (Prenzel, Manfred et al. (eds).: PISA 2003. MŁnster: Waxmann 2004, p. 70, Table 2.9; or: PISA 2003: A Profile of Student Performance in Mathematics) , transformed into IQ (PISA scores, mean 500, SD 100, have to be transformed into IQ values, mean 100, SD 15, by adding or subtracting the deviation from the mean in the relationship 100 : 15 = 6,67, that means PISA 433 corresponds to IQ 90, PISA 500 to IQ 100, PISA 567 to IQ 110):

Wrong calculation. You have to use weighted average.
Anyway, this is a very sensitive topic. A lot of people will get offended by topic like this.

man, most koreans couldn't care less about korea's IQ ranking.

i bet if China were ranked first we wouldn't hear the end of it.

Who cares. Hong Kong 107 (which, in my opinion represents Chinese people more accurately), S. Korea 106, Japan 105... China 100 (w/ a lot of uneducated farmers, still a developing country) means that East Asians are among the top 3. I think we can all be happy in that.

ekkenergy
not really. in south korea, they only acquired 107 samples, but in kong kong they tested more than 10 thousand times/

Country Age Test Number IQ Reference

Hong Kong 3-13 SPM 13,822 103 Lynn et al., 1988

A sample is biased if some members of the population are more likely to be chosen in the sample than others. A biased sample will generally give you a misestimate of the quantity being estimated. For example, if your sample contains members with a higher or lower value of the quantity being estimated, the outcome will be higher or lower than the true value.

I'm sure if you asked most people with 140+ IQ (i.e. intelligent people), they would tell you to be wary of these types of rankings. There are so many factors involved. Economics. Education. Etc.

India ranked so low? Hahah. Laugh-out-loud funny.

In this case, they should only get an average from Tokyo or Seoul.
kennyboy
this is stupid. IQ although a bit valid is overrated in my opinion. Look at Germany....Germany has a supposed lower national IQ than east asians yet look at all the inventions and innovations they made....Albert Einstein for example. Britain too...and most European countries have supposed "lower IQ" too.

China with a supposed "low" IQ average of 100, made more considerable historical scientific contributions than korea. yeah i dunno, i don't think it is a laughable to think hong kong represents the potential of chinese since china was so far far ahead of europe until the last couple of centuries.

high "iq" helps but i don't think it should be used to final measure of intelligence. there's lot of measures of intelligence.....

No, you are very wrong! Hong Kong can't represent the Mainland China as Ghang Nam and Tokyo can't represent Korea and Japan respectively. It's just that they are regions or districts that are most developed in their respective nations.

Its kind of funny how excuses run rampant all of a sudden. What does it matter what the population is? Technically the more people you have the harder it is to sustain a higher average as opposed to a lower population so whats your point? Your still behind us.

Isn't that what I said. 1.3 billion chinese not even including those in hongkong and taiwan and compare that to the populations of japan and korea and you'll see why its harder to actually sustain a higher average and yet even though minizero is correct in the sense our average is not as high we still have the second highest mark overall and the highest score in asia. So just like you can say korea has the highest average we can say we got the highest mark in asia whats wrong with that?

SsangOhChill
Yes. IQ tests averaged over small, disprortionate samples representing nations of people are stupid. The IQ test in itself is stupid. The only people who take it seriously are folk with low intelligence.

And WTF is 106 vs 105 or 107 anyway? Isn't 105,106, 107 retard iqs? I'd be ashamed to have anything less than 130 iq.

And we all know what everyone's thinking. Koreans may have adequtae IQ, yet what have we contributed to the world? Nothing. Zilch. How many Nobel laureates or anything do we have? ZERO.

By the year 2050, if Koreans don't have any substantial achievements under their belts they are idiots. I can understand that history goes down a certain way and Koreans are in the midst of stabalizing now; we've only just begun competing in the world. Good. But now everything is modernized. Let's see what we can do. These averages and numbers mean CRAP.

Great achievements on any scale depend on many things. Raw intellectual ability is only one of them.
