i am sorry if i do not have alot of insight on both sides. but i just want to see some of your opinions. anyways, here are the videos:

On paper Russia might seem formidable, but I doubt they could project conventional force on a mass scale like they once had the capability to do.

USA no contest. The russian Military is a shadow of its former self. Poor to almost no equipment maintainance. Morale is super low do to money owed in back pay and extended enlistments. The biggest killer though is the condition of their equipment, run down and worn out.

lol when I was in the Air Force we used to joke that the military should clone this one guy in our shop, you shoulda seen this guy, he was rigged for war. He transfered to Army and is killing some Iraqis right now with the 101st. I'm just waiting to see his name pop up in the news for commiting some war crimes, lol.

Russia does have some very able special forces units. But there is more to war than a few elite troops.. The state of Russian equipment is highly questionable. A very large percentage is in a state of disrepair from lack of care. The Russian navy is a fleet of rusting hulks. News flash even when the Soviet Union was in their prime the ships were in very poor condition, and depending on older technology. I doubt that has changed at all given the money crunch they are in today.
Tank on tank. The A-1 has proven itself more than a match against russian tanks.
Attack helo's. The hind was an awsome machine but its old news. The apache would eat it for breakfast.
Airforce. The one area Russia truely exceled, but 1 area they were hurt in is Russian pilots were trained to be reliant upon their controlers.
The subfleet. Hmmm In this area I am strong as I was a sub hunter in the Navy. The russian subs with the exception of the Akula class are loud rattle traps. They have more incidents with their subs in 1 year than the US Navy has in ten. The Typhoon class is huge and makes enough noise to to be heard well in advance. In short Russian subs make for a target rich enviroment.

US all the way. The video of the russian special forces does look cool, but the US ones are commericals and dont show you what really goes on. For example, the SERES (Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape specialists ) training they go through is more intense than you can possibly imagine. Plus the US has much more advanced equipment.

I believe the Americans can beat the Russians but unlike other adversaries, the Russians is well-equipped enough to cause some damage.

No, beating an army on the battlefield is quite different than securing a region. Look at how easily the US clobbered the Iraqis twice on the battlefield. The reasons the US military is having such a difficult time in Iraq is because they're there for a different purpose. On the battlefield, the main objective is to kill the enemy, while in rebuilding a nation, the main purpose of an army is to protect and pacify the civilians. Armies were built to do one, not the other.

The US, on the other hand, has only improved upon the most advanced weaponry in the world.

Russia has been a vendor the weaponry whole sale market for over 30 years. They are more concerned about making some money than being a military threat.

The old Soviet strategy was to develope cheap reliable equipment -make it work & makes lots of it.
In more recent times its to make fewer weopons but more emphasis on technology.

The Russian military forces has shrunk but they have made technological improvemenst in certain areas. They have developed some new fighter aircrafts that would give competitors a good run for their money.
The Russians also developed a super fast rocket propelled toepedo that has no western counterpart. They also developed the deadly "Sunburn" anti ship missle rocket that both scares the heck out of the U.S. navy.

They also have developed hypersonic cruise missles that has no western counterpart to it. (they are at least 20 years ahead in hypersonic cruise missle technology)

The Russian also developed a technology that can detect stealth aircrafts. (I believe it was some kind of new form of radar)

They have imporve their RPG rocket system with tandem/binary systems that can penetrate reactive armour. They also develope a thermabaric as well. etc

There are other Russian military improvements not mentioned. There was difinatly a set back in Russiain its military in the 90's but now more and more systems are being recently developed.

Russian development in the face of adversity is admirable, they do very well in certain areas. But they have stiff competition.

There is actually a western counterpart to the rocket torpedo, the Germans have the barraccuda torpedo which uses a nose cone for steering.

Russian aircraft are good but many small nations are able enough in this day and age to afford western european fighters. Thailand and Czech Republic are looking at the Gripen and Poland is looking to the eurofigher.

Also small countries are able to afford the Leopard 2 mbt which is theoretically the finest mbt on earth. Many small eastern european countries have adopted it while the Russians are lacking in armor development.

Westerners have SMAW and panzerfaust 3 to compete with RPG, western counterparts tend to be more accurate. Russians lack a weapon comparable to the Carl Gustav and thermobaric is yesterdays news.

Russia's ak system is beautiful in its own right but its a weapon for conscripts and farmers. In todays military they have professional soldiers who need precision small arms. Russia lacks advance small arms, the west are ages ahead in terms of accuracy and user friendliness.

Anyways I think that the world is saturated with newer arms technology that everyone is trying to undercut everybody, thus cheaper prices for the latest and greatest. I love russian imagination and I hope they survive.

The original intent of the ak system was reliability under harsh condition. (essentially a rifle that doesnt jam easily if covered in dirt & mud etc.)




They have developed some new small arms. I remember they had some pretty weird stuff that were printed in Soldier of Fortune magazine a number of years ago.
Theres even a good book on these new & relatively unknown Russian small arms.

They do difinatly have tons of old Ak-47s around (I think in hundreds of thousands!). I suppose they have to get rid of the old stocks some how. I believe they also recently developed the AN-94.

Yes the leopard is German, its now refered by the manufacturer as the euro leopard because so many of the small european countries have adopted it. Its easily the most adopted tank after the russian t-series.

Almost every assault rifle today has reliability comparable to the Ak, even the new ar systems are almost as reliable. Russia needs precision weapons now. The west now has professional armies.

Dont get me wrong, i love russian small arm, the an94 is the most mechanically advanced gun ive ever seen. They're doin pretty neat and innovative stuff. Compared to the western small arms market, the russians are a bit cluttered. THey dont really have an industry standard so you get a new concept every week and the choices are daunting. The russians are adopting picatanny rails to their weapons to try and get order to the mess.

a problem is that germany dont sell their tanks and taktical weapons into "unsafe" countries like Russian Federation or China.

i like G-36 and MG-4 more as russian Kalashnikow-derivates..

I am assuming with no nuclear weapons? Or else Russia's 700 ICBMs and America's 600 ICBMs would kill us all.

If those 2 fought on an island equidistant to both countries, the USA will win. But if an invasion such as USA invading Russia or Russia invading the USA, then it will have to be taken differently. If the war is fought on US soil, Russia has no chance. If the war is fought in Russia, I would say the Russians will win despite the fact that they are technologically inferior.
