Truth or rumor from what you see in interviews?

Rumor. Bengalis insist that she's bengali because she spoke it in some movie but she's said in her interviews that she's pure south indian.

Express she isn't bengali.. u can google around and u will find it urself.. she worked in a bengali movie.. riturparo ghosh was the director.. u can see her interview in cbs 60 mins ....

Maybe they got confused by the "Rai" surname (as some Bengali have it)? But, so do South Indians and even Punjabis (I think).

bengalis do not have that RAI surname express urself ..they actually say she is asihwarya ROY!!!!... U know some bangladeshis say shahrukh khan was born in bangladesh ... I give up..

On another forum, there was a Bengali guy with the last name Rai-which is why he thought Aishwarya was Bengali. There was a sizeable amount of Bengalis in my mom's hometown, and she also said some of them had "Rai" as their last name. We also know a Rajput uncle with the last name "Rai, so yeah.....
