I read some Pattani history before. Very interesting Kingdom. They were weak though.

Pattani is no longer a state. It was broken by Siam in the early 20th century and it now a mere Thai province. It will stay that way.

Tak bai protesters dont count and represent the entire population. And this is a matter that isnt funny--so i dont know what you're laughing about. The majority of Thai muslims wish to remain part of Thailand--polls have proven this time and time again. However, a small minority prove quite annoying--and paint an image that the south is in upheaval--not entirely so.

I see , well are you sure the majority of the Thai muslims in the south want to stick with Thailand? From their actions, they seem to reject a lot of what Thai culture and what Thais have to say anyways, althoug I do have to admit that the non Muslim Thais handle it quite well and realize that the army is just as much at fault for whats going on in the region.

The way I see is, both sides are being irresponsible. Malay muslim leaders in the majority region (as pictured above) are cherring the insurgents on as well as rallying the population. The Thai Army is either being ineffective in their efforts and the government is simply not understand how to handle this. Taksin made a stupid comment awhile back

Both sides need to have talks, or something. Nobody is willing to step anything up.

I agree that both sides needs to increase diplomatic means--in fact the Army has already expressed its intent to work closer with muslim leaders--its a manifestation of how the Royal Thai Armed Forces is willing to bend back wards to gain the support of the people and in the end gain regional stability. There are polls and there are lies. As oppressive as the Thai's way of dealing with dissent and disagreement, I myself would not have said anything against the Thai government. I speak freely now because I no longer live under the Thai subjugation.
I thought that you said there are no minorities in Thailand, but just Thai. I am not so sure that I can believe you. There is a storm that is brewing in the horizon and they are the people who want to keep their identity as Muslims/Malays and they are fighting to keep it. The big problem are justice and proper treatment. Most thai people have bad attitudes toward muslim. They don't trust muslim. They hate muslim. They think they are superior.How can you get justice and equal treatment from people that hate you? No way. At Takbai, thai-muslims were seen as enemies.

Thai people especially Thaksin's supporters say the protesters deserved to die.


If Thailand want to solve the southern problem, it has to change thai people mindset first.

Educate taxi drivers. Educate north/northeast farmers. Well, if we can educate all Thaksin's supporters , we can solve lots of problem.

Malaysia has rejected a claim by Thailand that Thai restaurants here are funding a southern Thai separatist movement, a report said on Wednesday.

Deputy Security Minister Fu Ah Kiow described the allegation by Thailand's Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont as "baseless", the New Straits Times reported.

"It is very imaginative of him. It is absolutely baseless. These restaurants are owned by Malaysians and Thais," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

Fu was responding to an article in a Thai daily, The Nation, which cited Surayud as saying that "tom yam kung" restaurants in Malaysia were allegedly financing insurgency activities in the troubled south.

Another junior security minister, Johari Baharom, demanded Thailand show proof of the allegation.

"If this is true, we will investigate. But they must come to us with information first," he was quoted as saying.

Husam Musa, state public administration, finance and economic planning committee chairman in the northeastern Kelantan state that borders Thailand, rebuked the allegations.

"I think the stall operators, who are mainly Thai Muslims, would only be sending back money to their families, not for the purpose alleged by Surayud," he said.

Thai restaurants owners also criticised Surayud.

"We are working to earn an honest living, not wrecking the lives of others," one was quoted as saying.

Residents in Thailand's southernmost provinces are mostly ethnic Malay and Muslim, sharing more culturally with their neighbors across the border than with the rest of Buddhist Thailand.

Separatist unrest and other violence has marked the region since January 2004, killing more than 1,500 people.

Surayud's military-backed administration has announced plans for talks with two insurgent groups this month, and rebel leaders have reportedly said they would like to hold the talks in Malaysia. - AFP
