Why should he? He was making point rather ineffectively though. Do people really believe Muslims and Christians believe that religions are all different paths that lead to the same place?!-roll

The new Pip, just made himself look so obvious.
Score another 1 for the anti-Catholics.

The Pope's words have caused a deep wound in the hearts of Muslims that won't heal for a long time, and then only after a clear apology to Muslims," Egypt's religious affairs minister, Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq, said.

What kind of Pip is he? he basically just planted the seeds of another religious war.

I think it is funny how the Muslims got so offended about the comments made, they decided to bomb churches and burn a likeness of the Pope and some even declared a war on the vatican.

Nice way to prove your point on how peaceful Muslims are!
ShengJieJiangJun
riiiight.

and when something small is mentioned of Judaism relation, it's anti-semitic and everyone validates it. but when it's Islam, no 1 gives a $hit but Islam. bull. sure.gif

the pope is defined as being infallible in the Roman Catholic Church. So if the pope were to apologize, it would show he was wrong, which would defy a millenia of Catholic dogma, dissappoint over a billion people. so, i doubt an apology is forthcoming

Seems like the Islamic world gets its panties in a wad over anything and everything. They trash everyone elses religion but can't stand a little bit of the same. hell with the radicals let them get over it for a change.
No the pope should not make any further attempts to appologize.
northwestern_student
^well, it's the same with religious fundamentalists everywhere

True to a point. But its the middle eastern radicals that are into the whole sale idea of slaughtering anyone they feel is an infidel. They are also the ones spazzing out about any comments they don't agree with 100%.
It amazes me they have such thick skin when it comes to blowing up civilian targets, sending their sons strapped with bombs to perform the cowardly acts, but when it comes to words the heat is to much to bare. All radicals regardless of the faith are too extreme but face it these middle eastern wingnuts take it to a new level.

I find it very ironic, way for the muslims to prove everybody's point.

it's very weird how they react to what the pope said... islam promotes violence and they say no by bombing churches and slaying a nun.... how ironic
even if the pope's apology is necessary, i mean if u offended someone you would apologise to the person no matter what.. just the way they reacted is absurd and hypocritical

but what was the pope talking about that he included islam in it?? can someone brief me on it
EDIT: ok i found what it was an he was merely saying what he read. =..=

No matter what his intentions were the fu-king pope shouldn't have bashed Muslims.

During a speech last Tuesday during a visit to Regensburg in southern Germany, the pope had quoted the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus as saying: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." The pope argues he mentioned the words as part of a larger invitation to dialogue and a condemnation of using violence to further faith no matter what religion is involved.

What many found offensive was the way Pope Benedict XVI quoted the medieval Byzantine emperor Manuel II Palaiologos:

QUOTE
"Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

Not really. Muslims would never insult Jewish or Christian prophets, but are respectful towards them instead. On the other hand, many Jewish and Christians wouldn't think twice about insulting Muhammad. The Islamic world only reacts negatively to insults against Muhammad, not "anything and everything", and it's usually just the Middle East that reacts extremely, not the whole Islamic World.

It's not Islam that promotes violence, it's extremists who promote violence. The attacks on churches and a nun only happened in politically unstable regions such as the Middle East and Africa. Nothing like that has happened in Southern Asia or Southeastern Asia (which have the largest Muslim populations).

(CBS/AP) A Turkish Airlines plane carrying more than 100 passengers from Tirana, Albania, to Istanbul, was hijacked Tuesday and landed at Italy's Brindisi airport, company spokesman Ali Genc said.

The plane was hijacked in Greek air space, Genc said. News reports said the plane was a Boeing 737-400

Candan Karlitekin, chairman of Turkish Airlines' board of director confirmed Turkish news reports that the aircraft was hijacked by two Turks in protest of Pope Benedict XVI visit to Turkey next month.

The hijackers had told authorities they were prepared to turn themselves in, Karlitekin said.

"The passengers are not under any threat. They will surrender. They have declared that they will surrender the moment they hijacked the plane," Karlitekin said.

"There is no loss of life or any injuries," he said.

There were 107 passengers and six crew members aboard, Karlitekin said. Only five of the passengers were Turks.

A spokesman for the Greek military's general staff told The Associated Press that four Greek fighter jets had been scrambled to shadow the plane after it issued a distress signal over Greek airspace.

The BBC reports that the plane issued two SOS signals while over Greece.

The plane contacted Italian air traffic controllers about 5:25 p.m. and asked to land in Brindisi, according to Nicoletta Tomiselli, a spokeswoman for the Italian air traffic agency ENAV.

She said the aircraft, carrying 113 people, was escorted to the ground by two Italian military planes.

"We don't know what the situation is yet," she said.

An Italian aviation official says hijackers appear to be unarmed and negotiations are under way for the release of passengers.

Private NTV television said Brindisi airport had been closed to air traffic.

It said the Turks were reportedly negotiating with Italian authorities to make a protest statement against the pope.
