Hi.
My father's family from HanGyungDo. which is one of the most North-East provinces in North Korea. They have been living there for many generations, presumably you could go back centuries. On my mother's side, my grandfather is a Korean-Chinese from Shenyang and my grandmother is also from the North part of North Korea. I also know some Koreans from Yanbian autonomous prefecture, who are pure Korean. I just want to clear up that North Koreans and Koreans in China are as Korean as any other. Sure, there are different dialects and slightly different cultures, but overall, all Koreans are quite homogenious in both ethnicity and culture. Most of my relatives fled to the South or into China during the Korean war.
China is not one race of people. It is a multi-ethnic imperialistic country who conquered and assimulated over 60+ ethnicities over many millenia. Actually, alot of this conquest can be contributed to the Mongolian and Manchurian dynasties, coupled by the Han Chinese's ability to assimulate other people and cultures. They still do it, as I have met many Chinese who say that Koreans, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese in South Asia, Mongolians, etc etc are all Chinese or Chinese related.
Personally, I think human diversity is beautiful, so I am saddened that China is assimulating and destroying other cultures with its propaganda, distortion of history and "one China" policy. But yet, how else would you hold together a country of 1.3 billion people with over 60+ ethnicities, cultures and languages? Yes, we're all Chinese, right? Even the Koreans in China are not allowed to get dual citizenship with Korea. Why? Because the Chinese government is afraid. Afraid that their conquests in taking land from Tibet, Mongolia, Vietnam, Korean Manchuria, Taiwan and, in more ancient times, Hakka, Miao, Kazak, North west provinces, Suchuan, Canton, etc etc. will create instablility. I would fear that too if I was a Chinese government official. So lets use propaganda and history to glue "one China" together, who cares about people losing their heritage. Makes sense to me.
Anyways, I hope I didn't offend any Chinese with this post. I think China is great country with very beautiful historical past, but at the same time I wish China would recognize the beauty and uniqueness of the many cultures that encompasses their country, so the tradegy of cultural destruction does not continue. I'm afraid that so far, it dosen't look good.
Duh...most countries in the world do not allow dual citizenship and China is one of those countries. USA does not allow dual citizenship. Swenden does not allow dual....a lot of countries do not allow that.
I don't think Chinese govt needs to use propaganda to glue people together. On the contrary, Chinese govt policy has always promoted multi-culturalism. You get to see lots of ethnic performace on Chinese TV. Can you say the same with Korea? I dont think so. Anyway it's not very easy for ethno-centric people like koreans to understand China. So I don't want to waste my time with you.
