well....Tang dynasty is considered as a high point of Chinese civilization in terms of cultural development, architecture, military power, economic power, arts, science, trade, and everything. It was an incredibly diverse dynasty with ton of foreginers living in China. i.e Persian, Indians, Arabs, Silla(koreans), Japanese, central Asians........It's sort like today's USA. It's a very open and outward dynasty. Japan and Korea got most of Chinese influence during Chinese Tang dynasty in terms of arts, literature, architecture, culture, political system and pretty much everything else. Japanese kimono and Korean Hanbok got many Tang dynsaty influence. Specially the kimono. So you see the similarity between Tang dynasty dress and Japanese kimono.
