ECHO - for Emergency Community Health Outreach.
• It's very important that people be able to get good information about their health - in their own language, and in ways that respect their culture.
• Beginning in September, 2004, channel 17 in the Twin Cities will be broadcasting a show designed to do that - in Spanish, Vietnamese, Hmong, Lao, Khmer & Somali.
• The show is called ECHO - for Emergency Community Health Outreach.
• The program being put together by the state health department, local health departments, and people representing non-English-speaking communities in the Twin Cities.
• The show will give you information about things like
- how to keep from getting the flu - and what to do if you do get it
- what do if you get exposed to poisons or dangerous chemicals
- how to keep your home safe
- how to protect yourself when the weather turns bad
- how to stay healthy in cold weather
• If there is ever a major public health emergency, the same
people who do the ECHO show will go on the air to tell you about it - on channel 17.
• The emergency could be something like an explosion...a
tornado....a truck or railroad car leaking poison gas.......or a big disease epidemic.
• When an emergency happens, the people who do the ECHO show will tell you what's going on, and what you need to do to protect yourself - in your own language.
• The first regular ECHO show is set for September 19 at 8:00 p.m (for Spanish, Vietnamese & Hmong) September 26th at 8:00 p.m. (for Lao, Khmer & Somali) with a repeat October 23rd & 30th.
• After that, it will be on at the same time on the third Sunday of every month. Each show will then be repeated, at 11:00 p.m., on the third Saturday of the following month.
