hello,
i've just moved to nyc recently and i'm trying to find izakaya and real japanese restaurants, not the trendy sushi places on every block. i know that there isn't really a "japan town" per say in nyc, but is there a neighborhood with a higher concentration of real japanese restaurants?
any help and pointers would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Look around 14 E 41st Street, there are some places run by Japanese owners. I'm not quite sure if you can find a proper restaurant there, but you can ask people there who'd know better.

no jtown but go to the east village to kenka, 25 st. marks place. it's a great izakaya and there's two or three more on the same street within 50 yds. i moved to los angeles a yr and a half ago and i still miss that place.
