The New Jersey Nets have signed free agent guard Jay Williams, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Originally drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, Williams averaged 9.5 points, 4.7 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.15 steals in 75 contests during the 2002-03 season. Following his rookie campaign, in which he was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team, Williams sustained severe leg and hip injuries in a motorcycle accident and has not appeared in an NBA contest since.

He's a punk. Some racists assholes, that were his supporters, such as John Thompson ranked him higher than Yao Ming. What a fu-king pathetic piece of $hit.

People ranked him higher than Yao cuz no one has really seen Yao play at that time. Jay was the poster boy for the NCAA and he played for Duke. Everyone knew of Jay williams just because he played for Duke, but who heard of Yao Ming. Its like this every year when a foreign player is being considered to be a possible number one pick. Some people support the unknown and talented foreigner and some support the prospect who wows the country every week when he is shown on ESPN. We do not really know what type of Player Williams would of been because his career was in jeopardy due to the accident. He had a mediocre rookie season but sometimes it takes point guards awhile to adjust. Look at Chauncey Billups who was on his way to becoming a bust until he played for Detroit. I wish Jay the best of luck and hope he regains his form.

I know this is a pretty old thread but it's good to hear that jay Williams is back. Always good to see someone rise up after falling hard.

Damn... He should go to the D-League first and work his way back.

You know how they say the league wants to go smaller? That's BS they want their big guys to be able to move like smaller players. What the league likes these days are those 6'7 -7'0 guys that are versatile and agile yet long. This 6'2 Contract Violating Scrub can never be useful because he's obselete in every way unless he can learn how to play like Steve Nash.

No big deal-------- the Nets have a pretty good rookie PG, so Jay Williams whont see much playing team. If he makes the team...

If this thread was about the former Net PF Jason Williams, I would be excited. Just imagine -- bring ur own chauffer night at the Meadowlands. biggthumpup.gif

Jay Williams looked really slow and unathletic (which is understandable) in the preseason games he played for the Nets but he's improved his play-making abilities.

I reckon it'll take 1-3 more years for him to make a team but only as a bench-warmer.

Exactly and he was never really that good in the first place to be taken #2 overral. I dont care how good a guy is because when you're under 6'5" you're obselete if you're not a Steve Nash. The bigger guys today are too quick for a little man to even be much of a factor in a game.

Dwayne Wade has arms as long as a guy like Tayshaun Prince and hands and feet as big as the biggest post players. He's really not that little when you consider his overall physicality. Yea Chris Paul and Allen Iverson are exceptional as well.
