Do you ever wonder why some Indians come to the west?

For money and for opportunities lol. Hey gomeny, who is that guy in your signature? A friend of yours? A bf?
And I take it that's why you only have certain Desi groups abroad?
It's mostly people from the merchant caste....And then you got Punjabis and Gujaratis who are known to be business-like people.

Technically its Sardars = Taxi Drivers
As for Tamils, I think Madrasis are known for being doctors/comp engineers as well as restaurant owners.

Ahh I see...There are hardly any UPites and Biharis, because there are no rikshas in America for them to pull.
You also forgot liquor and gas station owners for Indian Punjabis, Gujaratis and Pakis.

That's the stereotype in Britain isn't it? I am more talking about stereotypes in US. I actually donno any bengali stereotypes!
The curry chef stereotype for Bengalis is common in the UK but the fish-monger stereotype is only common in India (and probably the US?)

I always thought of it as entire punjabi thing, not just limited to Sardars. Since sardars form a good proportion of pujabis in US, i would attribute taxi driver stereotype to all punjabis. I think i agree with the restaurant owners tag for tamillians. Most comp engineers are andhrites, infact most of it is dominated by andhrites.

I think in America the stereotype involving taxi drivers usually involves turbans too, making it mostly a sardar thing. As of current, the Sikh population of Punjab is 53%, so approximately half. Non Sikh Punjabis usually don't get the taxi stereotype as much as they do the convenience store one.....

NO, they wouldn't! Since Punjabis are so well known, they have stereotypes attributed to them. So, they have a seperate group of their own. No one realy knows biharis or upiyyites so its hard to have stereotypes for them. So, I decided to lump them together into the so called northies group.

that list is good for america i think..for canada it would be
punjabis...truck drivers, taxi drivers, motel owners, doctors, businessmen, factory workers
gujjus... factory workers, chefs
bengalis...factory workers, sweet shop owners
south indians....computer professionals
among all indians punjabis are the richest.
I am starting to hate punjabis, I swear to GOD!
