Look, does anybody know if this is still acceptable in the philippines?. I was wondering if this is a part of our culture like balut. I for one have NEVER seen anybody cook or eat a dog when i was back home. I sometimes get pissed when people think we eat dogs like people eat chiken... I know their ignorant, but I did heard stories about people chomping on that joint like its a piece of pork....

where i was from in the philippines...eating dogs wasnt something particularly to be proad about..it was considered something only "mga taga bukid(ignorant mountain people/hill billy)"would eat. i think only people who have no choice eat dogs but then i've also heard that its considered a delicacy in some parts of the country, mostly mountain areas.

as far as i see on tv, it is mostly been practiced in mountain areas nga like baguio. there is even a restaurant which specializes on dog delicacy. according to i-witness too, that restaurant can serve dog as long as they have documents and license. freaky noh

my dads side of the family still eat cats and dogs, their way of killing is very barbaric at times.i usually dont watch them kill a cat or a dog because maybe i had been too americanized.for them collies tend to be the favorite breed as they are not too big or too small.

Try asking those American WWII veteran. During the Bataan campaign those soldiers who were trapped in the peninsula eat anything, i.e. rats, snakes, monkeys, dogs, cats.
In Baguio, there are few restaurant that serve dog meat.
Anyway, there was a thread like this before, but it is now closed.

and also the, if the dogs are to be slaughtered, they should do it humane as possible.

Animal meat for food must be slaughtered in the slaughter house because it is illegal to kill any animal in public in the Philippines. Personally I do not like dog meat, but i think its ok to eat dog meat but it must be virus and bacteria free and properly cooked.

you know what the stupidest thing is? I've seen CHINESE and KOREAN and JAPANESE and VIETNAMESE people make fun of Filipinos for eating dogs, BEING SO STUPID NOT REALIZING that the people in CHINA, KOREA, and JAPAN and VIETNAM also eat dogs and cats and snakes and frogs, I saw it once in this documentary on THE LEARNING CHANNEL. STUPID PATHETIC IDIOTS.
it's standard in all of Asia, it's normal, it's nothing to be ashamed of, but being Americanized, of course, it's GROOOSSS to Americans, therefore, gross to Asian kids who grew up in Anglo culture.
It's all a part of that whole complex who's FOB and who's not inferiority complex that is so lame, let's not even talk about it anymore.

Yes, there are parts of the Philippines where dogs are eaten... it is a cultural thingy. Some of the minority... find it acceptable. I suppose the best explanation is that the attachment to pets *dogs, in particular* is not that strong. Just emphasize that this attitude varies from region to region... and that it does not actually hold true for an overwhelming majority of Filipinos.
Not everyone in the Philippines will eat dog-meat... and certainly, dog-meat is by no means a nightly dinner fare. It is not on the menu of restaurants *except, probably for the odd out of the way eatery in village, and it might be on the menu for the "shock factor" rather than for general culinary enjoyment*

. From what I know... it usually is eaten when there are informal drinking sprees in barrios or villages... tomaan na!!!

My books on Spanish accounts of Filipinos do not mention dog-eating. Does Jose Rizal mention the practice in his writings?
Filipinos are now known as dog-eaters but most of us have never eaten dog meat. I bet if you picked 10 people randomly in the Philippines seven or eight never had eaten dog meat. Of those who have most have only tasted it once or twice. Also, it is mostly men who partake of canine flesh. There is no moral superiority in eating cow, goat or other meat as compared to dog or cat meat, although arguably as a regular fare the former is healtheir practice. However, Idon't know that there are any people in the Philippines who eat dog meat regularly as a standard fare. Mostly features as a snack for men during drinking bouts.

When I was in the Philippines, my dad invited two of his friends in my house for a drink and my dad told me and my older sister to go inside. I peeked in the window and saw our dog "Saddam" (I don't know why the dog was named Saddam) bleeding in the ears lying down and the eyes was opened. Later, I saw something in the table that looked like chicken. My sister tried it then my dad came and said thats dog meat.
Now, we are in Canada and I hear my dad talking to his friend that he misses eating dog meat.

Meh, what's the big deal? Dogs aren't any better than other animals. Just don't eat meat or else eat meat. But don't run around talking about how eating dogs is wrong but eating pigs is alright. Even though pigs are more intelligent and only because dogs are "cuter."
Eendje
Nov 13 2006, 11:20 PM
pigs are cute too, if theyre not rolling in their own $hit. but yea, if you eat meat then just eat it, people are just hypocryts who thinks to much. especially muslims. just because they think pigs are filthy animals they dont eat them, dumb muslims.
dogs are worse than the other animals though. all dogs should die.
Disco Gestapo
Nov 13 2006, 11:49 PM
^Dogs roll around in their own $hit, too (or do they roll around in the corpses of dead animals? I forget...). Anyway, what I meant was that "cute" is relative and people are just judging other cultures by their moral standards when other cultures don't live by the same moral standards.

Dog meat is very delicious and nutritious. It hepls men to be stronger when in bed. I often eat dog meat, maybe twice per week. It makes me very strong when I stay with my female partners. Eating dog meat with vodka is very wonderful.
People who oppose eating dog meat because they don't understand the culture. I think dog is just a type of animal, like cow, sheep, horse, pig... Killing dog for food is not an unmoral act.
In many countries like Vietnam, China, people raise dogs for meat in big farms, like sheep farms in New Zealand.
In Vietnam, we also eat rat, cat, tortoise, scorpion, lizard, frog, snake, cricket, spider, salamander... Rich people often bye foetus of tiger, deer... for food. We love to eat pennis of oxen, goat, tiger... to be stronger in bed.

Hey bro,
I'm into breeding budgies also, here in Pinas. Pero balot is really good. hehehe.
I also have a pet dachshund. But I simply dont eat dogs because I dont like its taste. If there's a doggie in the table, sure I'll taste it but its just for show. Its not an exotic food here in my place because its really common during drinking sprees. The bad thing about it is, many times...the dog is stolen from an unknowing neighbor who loved the animal as his own child. That's where the meanness is.

Is the dog a pet or a food? If a pet, and no longer desired or wanted, what do you do? In America, they give it to a dog shelter. If the dog shelter decides that it is not worth for adoption, they kill (euthanize) it and I wonder where they would dump the dead body or carcass. If the dog is in good condition or healthy enough, I wish the shelter would donate (ship it) to the Philippines. In the Philippines, this dog could still be a pet or a food. Either way, it will surely make the pet lover happy or sustain the very poor (economically unfortunate) dog eater or make a little money for the dog meat vendor. What do you think?
