QUOTE
US 'cannot allow' nuclear N Korea

Pyongyang's nuclear plans have aroused anger in South Korea
The US will not accept a North Korea armed with nuclear weapons, a top US envoy has said, after Pyongyang announced plans for a nuclear test.
North Korea must choose either to have a future or to have nuclear weapons "but it cannot have them both", top US negotiator Christopher Hill said.

He did not specify how the US would respond if a nuclear test took place.

Uh oh.

I kind of agree with the US government's stance on this - that they can't afford to let North Korea have nukes - but this looks very worrying. Can Kim Jong Il even afford to back down? And if it comes down to it will the North Koreans make sure Seoul goes down with them? I've never ever been worried about a conflict on the Korean peninsula before. Hope this turns out to be nothing, like all the 'crises' before now.

Seems like this is the same old 'song and dance' with NK.

Hope you're right. But the wording is unusually ominous for diplomat-speak.

I agree---- how come the more powerful Asian countries are not stepping in here?

Would N Korea listen. They didn't last time and went ahead with the Missile Tests.I think peace on the Korean peninsula is seriously threatened.
kaiwen
north korea is gonna get spanked
CJK
What's America gonna do?

They can't do jack.
northwestern_student
invade n korea
CJK
You think they have the guts to invade north korea?

North Korea is nearly untouchable.

If they could invade NK it would have already been done.
Why would the US wait until after NK developed nukes to invade?
The US seems genuinely convinced that NK does have nukes, but an invasion isn't worth it.
US can't even defeat the militias in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The US also doesn't have enough soldiers to deploy for an all out invasion.
They dont even have enough soldiers right now to contain south america from Hugo's anti american socialistic movement.

i wasn't being serious man
CJK
oh...my bad.

i didn't detect the sarcasm, although many people do think the US can just waltz in any country and take it over with ease.

well with NK's stance they can't do nothing either but back down...

That's the problem with the US, they always think that they own the world. I think that KJI is doing this just to push the US' buttons. The US does not necessarily lead by example. icon_confused.gif

^do you suggest we let NK play with their nukes then?

Really don't know what to make of this new round of words from the N. Korean government. But nukes are up-ing it.
I wonder how many S. Koreans realize how annoying (a thorn in the side) the N. Korean government is to their economy. Sometimes out of exasperation, I wish to see S. Korea deal with N. Korea asap so that S Korea can just move on with its progress/development.
LOL - Wonder what would happen if/should Ban Kimoon becomes UN head - would he side with NK or not.

As long as they're not targeting the US, let them do whatever. I doubt they're going to "play" with their nukes. Like I said before, they're just pushing buttons.

What's wrong with other countries having nukes and other weapons of their own? Why is it that the US can just intrude on another country's business? If they were invited to do so, than that's a different story. They always want to invade and throw sanctions if another country is trying to be on their level.

I can see the concerns surrounding it, but I don't want to see another empty Iraq war.

^^Do you really trust NK to be responsible with their nukes? Most of the money coming into their economy is from illegal activity: counterfeiting, selling fake cigarettes, etc. I'm sure they would sell a nuke if they got an offer. In fact they would probably actively shop it.

You see, there is a bright side to the nukes. I'm hoping they will be responsible, but KJI is kind of psycho. embarassedlaugh.gif

Kim Joing Ill isn't a psycho. He's a too much pussy for that. All he wants with the nuke is a world's attention.
