Hello all Indonesian!!!

The majority of the people have been said that the most Indonesian are superracist Nation in the world. They never welcomed and gladed to see another nation come in asking some stuffs or share some ideas. I personally don't care much about that situation...Thats why i am here just want to hearing from all your consensus. Is it true the statement as above???

Please comments on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't characterize a country by its individual members!

booo!
Triste
You can be racist regardless of your nationality.

Actually, most Indonesians are okay with foreigners...EXCEPT for the extremists. There are lots of Indonesians who believe that 'Indonesia should be an Islamic country', etc.

But most of them are uneducated, and are thus quite dumb, sorry to say.

I don't know anywherelse but in France, people seem to have a positive vision to indonesian and think that the indonesian people has in general a great sense of hospitality and welcome, it even has become one of the main attractiveness for people who visit indonesia : the legendary kindness of the indonesians, the permanent smile on their face... I don't invent it !!
So you guy don't have the right to say that indonesia is the most racist nation in the world. No nation is.

No sorry i'm indonesian but not balinese... I'm not a specialist of balinese architecture but according to what i've read about balinese culture etc, balinese architecture consists of an open courtyard, with many small structures. This is true of temples, palaces, or common homes. The structures are made of volcanic rock and red brick, and roofed with sugar palm fiber.
One of the most common features of Balinese Architecture is the Bale. It's an open pavilion, consisting of a thatched roof, and no walls. The Bale is an all-function structure. In the day it's used for gathering and meals. In the evening, it's used for sleeping. The Bale represents the Hindu-Balinese universe. The roof is the 'gods' section, the body is the 'human' section, and the base is the 'demons' section.
The traditionnal dress those children are wearing are called "Kebaya", Also worn in Java and Sumatra but quite different.

Sorry i can't tell u more about that... icon_redface.gif embarassedlaugh.gif

yes, it is.

the language spoken by people live in riau province and riau archipelago very similar with malay language from melacca peninsular we call it "cakap melayu". there are alot of relation between kingdom of siak and riau lingga and and sultanate of johor or melacca in malaysia just few hundred years back. In fact people in riau is the same ethnic with malay in malaysia not only in common as nusantarian or as austronesian race.

later on bahasa indonesia much get influenced by java, sunda and other indonesia local dialect yet bahasa indonesia and bahasa malaysia still 80-90% similar perhaps just like mexican and argentine or british and america for comparation.

indonesia and malaysia have unique relationship it went up and down. indonesia was becoming the role like big brother a few decade ago until 70's. but it seems malaysia right now taking this position now indonesia i can say have to look up to malaysia in term of economic progression. good for malaysia goverment which they can manage their country relatively more smooth and clean than indonesia, so it's less overheated and more competitiveness relatively to indonesia.
i know it's difficult to deal which very vast nation scattered with big sea in the between the islands but indonesia try to get it's path to contribute more. any country in this region have good progression direct or indirectly will be benefit also for it's neighbors.

Hi Nusantara. A fellow Malay muslim from across the straits here. I know we are going off topic but austronesian navigators were truly the greatest in that period. They invented the balance lug sail which was the first sail to allow a ship to zig zag into the wind.Other sail systems like the Arab lateen sail are derivatives of this invention.5000 years BP(before present) is only a conservative estimate. Some scholars suggested the beginning of Austronesian transoceanic voyages began 5500-6000BP.Anyway,another Austronesian contribution to technology was the outrigger vessels.

Austronesian vessels were also responsible in the exchange of language, merchandise, ideas and perhaps even people between Southeast Asia and the civilisations of Egypt,Mesopotamia and Indus Valley. For instance the Ban Chiang people in modern day Thailand were making bronze at the same time as the Sumerians. At this point I'm not sure who between them started the bronze age and regardless of who the Ban Chiang people were,Austronesian sailors may have had something to do with transporting the metalsmiths from one civilisation to the other. A large number of words shared by Sumerians and Austronesians also provides further evidence of constant contacts between them.

Sumerian and Austric Language

There is also remarkable similarities between Indus Valley script and Easter Island rongorongo hieroglyphs.Check out the bottom of this web page:www.atributetohinduism/Seafaring_in_Ancient_India

By the 1st century CE Malay people began building large ships that allowed spacious cabin and comfortable voyages for top paying passengers. Many Chinese monks and ambassadors wrote about these ships from the 3rd century onwards.
QUOTE
The report of the Chinese ambassador to Cambodia in 260, Kang Tai, referred to ‘great junks’ with seven sails, belonging to a Malayan or Indonesian state, which voyaged from the Far East to the Roman empire.  Faxian, the Buddhist pilgrim who went to India by land via the silk road in 399, returned to China by sea. He had no difficulty in finding ‘a large merchant-vessel on which there were over two hundred souls’ to take him from Ceylon to Java, and a similar ship to carry him on to Canton. From both east and west, the picture is of a regular, well-established traffic, in particular areas on some scale, using the best shipping of the day

www.upf.es
Bear in mind that the Roman empire mentioned above at one time extended into the Persian Gulf
The 12th century Arab geographer El Idrisi writes in Kitab Rujar about the inhabitants of Zabaj (Srivijaya) who travel to Sofala and Zanj on the coast of sub-Saharan Africa: "The residents of the Zabaj go to the land of Sofala and export the iron from there supplying it to all the lands of India. No iron is comparable to theirs in quality and sharpness." "The inhabitants of Zabaj call at Zanj in both large and small ships and trade their merchandise with them, as they understand each other's language."
"The Periplus of the Erythrean Sea" written in the 1st centuryCE also reported very large ships sailing to Chryse (Malay Peninsula) called colandia.

we don't need to become one country i am happy for what it is. since we don't need visa to visit malaysia and vice versa. do you think malaysia will be so progress like now if it is one with in indonesia? i doubt so.
we know how corrupt our goverment since all the party and decision maker was sentralised in java. things is slightly getting better right now since there are special otonomi for it's province yet it was already too much chaotic caused by the new era regime at that time ruled indonesia as if this country just belong to his family member and can do what ever they want. bottom line we have not to repeat our mistake happened in the past and not shame to learn from others country.

that happened since there is more greater rule for each province in indonesia to rule thier region for themself. so riau right now can breath and ease little bit also others province. on new order era riau just like other province outside java just became milk cow without being feeding for selfish centralised goverment in jakarta. yet still a lot of things need to improve. under our current president right now megawati soekarno (civil goverment) things is improving.
indonesia right now holding president election but it seems few indonesia right now still remember how militery if bocoming a ruler in developing country can lead the country to disaster it can be seen the strongest candidate from militery back ground.
indonesia was not improving so much because a lot of debt and unprofessional manage, ruled by family member and chronic goverment was caused by militeristic background on the new order regime. my personal will let indonesia keepl ruled by democratic civil goverment.

i think li_fung is right about the maid issue. thousands of women from Philipine and indonesia etc. go to Hong Kong to work as maids, not only HK but Singapore as well. in Hk, some indon/filipino maids even engage in illegal sex activities and throw their own employers' babies down the street. however, i do feel sorry for some of them for the abuse they get.

as for selling daughter for food, i guess many different enthic people in the past have done it before. some people think their daughters might be better off with a rich person rather than living with a poor couple who can't even feed their own children.

Question: Are Indonesian Racist?
Answer: Not necessarily, but they (most of em) divide up individuals to their race. So if you're coming from Sweden, to an average Indonesian you represent your whole country, Sweden. If you do something in a certain way, the avg Indonesian would think that all Swedes do that same thing in that certain way.

Hi

I am from Singapore, and I am of Chinese descent. I happened to see this thread while surfing the Internet. Let me just tell you my experiences in Jakarta.

I was in Jakarta in November last year on a business trip, and also to attend a Chinese-Indonesian friend's sister's wedding. It was my first trip to Jakarta. I have been to Bali previously, and it was a very nice and friendly place.

I got into a Silver Bird taxi at the airport to send me to my hotel. The taxi driver was native Indonesian, and was very friendly and could speak English. I had a nice conversation with him. So I was thinking: Hey this place is ok. Except for the street scenes, which are full of native Indonesians selling food by the street, and generally the poor poeple living in the slums, which are almost everywhere in Jakarta.

At the hotel, I checked into my room at the counter. The lady at the hotel reception was also native Indonesian, and she was very nice and polite as well.

After that, I met some friends also from Singapore, and went to Plaza Indonesia for coffee. Along the way in the taxi, I began to feel more and more disturbed by the number of poor native Indonesians on the streets and in the slums. To tell you the truth, I felt very sorry for them.

At the Plaza Indonesia, I realized the difference. Outside the shopping centre was all the poor native Indonesians. Inside, was all the rich Chinese shopping and buying the branded clothes and jewellery and stuff. The security guards, though, were native Indonesian. The cleaners and workers were also native Indonesian.

That night, I went to my Chinese-Indonesian friend's sister's wedding in the Grand Hyatt. Again, I saw the contrast. The hotel guests and people who attended the wedding were local Chinese and some white foreigners. The guys who opened the doors, the waiters, the workers, they were native Indonesian. As usual, this was a posh Chinese-Indonesian wedding, and they definitely spent a lot of money on the wedding, as the food was high-quality and the decor was posh. The wedding's guests are also rich Chinese-Indonesians, some of whom I knew from my school days in the US.

The next few nights, I was brought to some of Jakarta's best nightclubs and pubs. The people spending money like crazy in those places were Chinese-Indonesians and whites. The native Indonesians? Well, they are all workers there. Some of the native Indonesians were also customers, but they just sat around smoking cigarettes and watching people. My friends told me some of them are drug dealers or pimps.

At the end of my trip, I fully understood why the native Indonesians hate the Chinese-Indonesians so much.

If you are a poor native Indonesian, looking in from the outside at all these rich Chinese-Indonesian spending their money and living a life of luxury, you would hate the Chinese too. Do you know how great the contrast is between the Chinese-Indonesian lifestyle vs. the native Indonesian lifestyle? Let's just say: the amount of money the Chinese spend on a single restaurant meal can easily feed a family of 4 native Indonesians for a month!

In conclusion, looking at how some Chinese-Indonesians flaunt their wealth in front of the poor native Indonesians, I fully understand the hatred of the native Indonesians.

That's not all. In fact I know how the Chinese-Indonesians became so rich. A lot of them made their money by exploiting the native Indonesians, making use of them at low cost, taking their land at low cost. Just look at those wealthy Chinese who literally RAPED Kalimantan of natural resources, making use of the natives as cheap labour. In fact, I have relatives who are Chinese-Indonesians. Their business is dealing in motorcycles to native Indonesians. But when their native Indonesian customers cannot pay the installment for the motorcycles, they take the motorcycle back, refurbish it a little, and sell it to the native Indonesians again at full price. I think that is a sin.

ps:- one night, while travelling back to the hotel in a taxi with my friends, we were stopped by a native Indonesian police man. The police man threatened to arrest us because we didn't have our original passports with us, only photocopies. But he said if we gave him a large sum of money, he'll let us go. In the end, we gave the police man some money on the spot. My friend, who works for an American MNC in Indonesia, bargained the price down. That was my only bad experience with native Indonesians.
Shino
MOST Indonesians are racist. Believe me, I am also an Indonesian but I'm not THAT racist like the people in Indonesia. Wait, don't flame me first. Indonesians like to divide races, for example, if a Black man is walking down the street, many Indonesians will just call them "NEGRO NEGRO NEGRO!! Wahahah gila ada negro disini paraaah, woiii item! woiii!!", or maybe a white man, "buleeee woi bule depok!! kagak bisa bahasa indonesia yah? i lop yu daaah!!", or maybe an indian man "oi nehi nehi lo! nehi nehi!"... yep, many Indonesians are like that and its really really annoying when Indos see me hanging around with the blacks or indians, theyll just say "idih ngapain sih lo temenan ma orang ITEM?", it ticks me off so bad! I mean, why the hell!! I can hang out with ANYONE I want! indonesians are STEREOTIPICAL! They say Indian people are smelly, but if they can smell their own smell, theyll faint like hell! They say blacks are so bad and so dumb and stuff like that, but they listen to RnB and Hip Hop, how idiotic...... They hate the chinese so damn much just because theyre jealous... Man, I wish Indos start thinking further....

NO offence for Indonesian racists, this is not an offence, this is a damn fact, I'm dissing you like hell dude...
purnomor
^ LOLZ.. where did you find these experiences? sounds like peeps from some remote villages or slum area. those peeps loves the nasty variety of jokes, particularly they always laugh abt peeps' skin colour, hair style, or facial features sure.gif

but you cannot generalise by callin most indonesians racist. in australia, i've been called "wog", "Ching-Chong Chinaman", or eben "J@p", but I couldn't say that Australia is a racist country. i dont think indonesians are racist against indians or africans.. indonesians actually have affinity to indians. indonesians love bollywood movies and music, and indian actors like shahrukh khan, juhi chawla, or madhuri dixit went to indonesia a lot. as for africans, you can find so many of them having indonesian girlfriends in tanah abang area. last time i go through sukarno-hatta airport, i saw so many africans arriving in indonesia, dont know for what reason. and you always heard about illegal african immigrants being deported back to their countries. i dont think africans would be willing to illegally migrate to indonesia if they experience widespread racism there.
Shino
^ That's why theyre so idiotic, they love bollywood and Indian music but if they actually see the Indian person, they start making fun of them. Just like the stupid Indonesians who love RnB and Hip-Hop but hates the people who actually made it.

EG.

"Oi lo udah dengerin lagu Pharrel yang baru blom?"
"Udah tuh, keren abissss sumpah!!"

And when they see a black person passing by...

"Negro najis banget ih! Item banget gitu!!"
"Idiiiiiiiiih paraaaaaaaaaaaaah!!"

So dumb, believe me, it's everywhere in our community -_-
