Agartala, Oct.2 (ANI): Residents of Tripura are celebrating Durga Puja in defiance of a militant threat to disturb the festive proceedings.
With insurgency in the state on the wane, the general public now appears to be more confident about taking part in festivities like Durga Puja. This is most visible in the villages of Tripura, where rural and tribal folk have not hesitated in taking part in fund collection drives to make the festival a memorable event.
Till a few years ago, harbouring such thoughts of celebration was unheard of.
In Agartala, the inclement weather of the past few days has not dampened spirits. Hundreds of people have been visiting various pandals to see the different ways in which Durga Puja is being celebrated.
People like Raat Debnath are happy and believe that with the blessing of goddess Durga, which symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, shall take the state towards peace and prosperity. (ANI)

Christian rebels in this region have created a HUGE problem. Not only in Tripura, but also in Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Meghalaya.
The mainstream of Indian population is too far away from these people, and even the Army doesn't have adequate forces in the area. I think India needs to work on getting a large city with business operating done in this area. Calcutta is close, but it's cut off from the other states due to Bangladesh.
