i think its impossible. too hard since they speak the same language and we dont. plus they are majority muslim and we are majority christian.

I agree it would be quite hard for Catholic Philippines to cooperate with Malaysia and Indonesia, who are predominantly muslim states.

dumb idea...philippines, malaysia and indo have little to hold them together...it will be a federation plagued with sepratists movement like what happened in parts on indonesia, malaysia(singapore & brunai) and philippines.

There was a proposal like this before, I believe in the 60s. I believe President Suharto or is it Sukarno of Indonesia the one who proposed this idea.

The Idea is to unite Malaysia (Malaya back then), Philippines, Indonesia into one nation, it will be called "MAPHILINDO"

Brunei Darussalam, on the other hand, I believe is not part in this idea since it was a separate crown colony of the UK and it only received its independence sin 1984.

Maphilindo was proposed as a realization of Jose Rizal's dream of bringing together the Malay peoples and uniting Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia.

I think uniting the malay archipelago today would be a disaster because this would only increase terrorism in the region and christians might be persecuted or killed just like what happened in Indonesia.

I think a Malay Union with one currency like the European Union would be more desirable since we are all malay people and this will also improve the region's economy.
