Report: NK may have performed nuclear testSEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- South Korean government officials said North Korea performed its first nuclear weapons test Monday, the South's Yonhap news agency reported
North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported the country has performed a successful nuclear test.
According to KCNA, there was no radioactive leakage from the site.
South Korean officials could not immediately confirm the Yonhap report.
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun convened an urgent meeting of security advisers over the issue, Yonhap reported.
The North said last week it would conduct a nuclear test as part of its deterrent against a possible U.S. invasion.

This will be interesting in the fact that Japan and US already has heavy sanctions in place against NK. Nothing can be done economically to NK from them. China and SK pressure did give us hope, but a couple of days ago, NK generals has openly stated that they don't give a rats @$$ what China and SK thinks.

From half-way around the globe on the US, no. South Korea reports significant seismic activity comparable to 3.7 on the ritcher scale from North Korean Hamkyung bukdo region.

This is quite abrupt but we have been expecting it for quite some time now.
Kim believes his nukes will make America think twice but the result may stifle his regime even further.
Appeasement will not stop him and sanctions have all but failed. The only way is if all parties involved i.e China, South Korea, Japan, Russia, U.S.A all take a unilateral stance once and for all and make Kim realise that if he's going to start a war then he'll go it alone and he will suffer the consequences for it.

To bad no missle defense system can save Seoul. A tunnel by North Korea is a more likely way to deliver a nuke to Seoul.
BTW There is still a 50% chance that the seismic activity comes from a lot of conventional bombs.

UN is made up of France, Germany, UK ....basically the whole international community, not just US. Basically Iraq is under the world scrutiny to make sure US handles the situation well, and they hand over sovereignty to Iraqis, not keep it as a colony of US. That is against international law.
