Considering North Koreans don't have rice to eat I think it's highly improbable.Which are the neighbouring countries of Korea {N & S} ----->Japan and China.Do you seriously think any Korean {united or not}leader would have the courage to attack either China or Japan.I don't think so.

i was told, that history teaches us what countries did after a unification, they usually wage war to mix the two up and to resolve any internal problems due to, too many smarties who want to be rich and powerful, so they turn there eyes to a common foe putting aside their differences and wages war, unite the ppl, unite the economy even if it is a war they will eventually lose. the only way i reckon that the two koreas can become one is one country with two states, cause i dont see any other way, war or complete surrender of one of the koreas?, its gonna cost a crap load of money and enormous humanitarian crisis, which everyone in the world wouldnt want, especially the people of the two countries... one nation, two states (2 different systems) eventually blend into one???

germany did the same when they unified right? you know nowadays things are different...once korea is unified the west will help out as much as they can do improve conditions in the north.

just like the US huh?

but it is truly easier said then done, considering the level of world economies nowadays, it wont take only a few months so to normalise, more like years n years perhaps even decades, might even collapse if it doesnt get any better, its gonna be a disaster, if so somethings gonna happen, maybe some military leader/general will try to assume power and head towards some kind of military dictatorship and even that usually means some way or the other, war will be eminent.. so its hard to say really, since both koreas have large armies with loads of weapons, weapons in development and south korea being an advanced country in terms of technology, with both koreas united it adds up to almost 10 million soldiers at a event of a war and rest of the countries men all have previous military training, meaning an enormous force which no country can look at with ease...

the answer is simple...before unification a provisional government should be set up with heavy support from south korea, until the situation normalises....war is such an unrealistic factor....especially for a respected member of world democracies.

I certainly doubt this would happen.

If N & S. Korea were to reunite, alot of re-building on both sides is vital. It will be more like North Korea playing catch up & South Korea being able to be independent from any foreign influence, but to work together with its brother in a more prosper nation.

The aim would be to achieve a respect that Korea is a nation that does not need food aid or U.S military backup in order to run by itself.

You only see one thing in the history, tho. Almost every nation who achieved unification first focused on stabilizing economic/polictical situation in the country. well, yes, there are many cases where a unified country waged a war against neighboring nations, but not until she achieved a certain degree of domestic stability. If SK and NK are unified, unified korea simple won't have resouces for invading neighboring nation since economic difference between two nations are just too great. It will take more than 5 years to sort out any economic/political/cultural differences.

Besides, you are talking about china and japan for the 'target' neighboring nations. Unified korea would have some fearsome military power for sure, but china/japan are just too advanced (or developed) to invade easily.

well i wasnt just talking about china and japan, maybe some countries in south east asia, i dunno it all depends on whos in power i guess.. u gotta understand the power of the people in korea and how loud their voices can be.. they are quite fanatical, especially in terms of war, some of my korean friends are total war freaks and they say 'one day we're gonna pay back the japanese for what they have done, whether it is in the next decade or century, justice will be given to our people' and also mentioned about forgotten land that belongs to korea in russia & china, 'kando' or something place and how china is occupying lands of mongolia and vietnam.. anyways, ive heard that also it would most likely be a country that has natural resources.. well there is many theories so i guess only time will tell what will really happen.. but i just hope the two koreas will become one soon and hopefully no war..
