I found this in spore mirrors....and perhaps this would be good knowledge to some people who is unaware of singapore's achievement to-date

Not here to flame or to compare....but juz pointing out how did this tiny red dot achieved so much in so little time.....

Little edition to the original text....which i find not accurate

It is one of the cleanest cities in the world

It is a green city - greenery all over the city. Appropriately, it is also called a 'garden city'

Its airport - Changi Airport - has been voted as the best airport in the world for the last more than 10 years

Its airline - Singapore Airlines - has been voted as the best airline in the world for the last more than 14 years

Its port is the busiest port in the world - handling about 19 million TEU's (Twenty Footer Equivalents) per annum

Its housing policy should be the best in the world as about 95% of citizens have own house. Further, houses here are quite spacious, have all the amenities, e.g., market, supermarkets, multi-stall eating centres, library, swimming pool, bus stop, car park, school, etc.

It became a first-world country from a third-world country in one single generation. It was one of the poor countries in 1965 when it was separated from Malaysia. In 35 years, it is one of the wealthiest countries of the world.

Its public transport system should also be one of the best in the world which comprises of buses, trains & taxis. Buses and trains are almost always 100% on time and are very frequent in service.
One can easily keep one's appointment relying on the public transport

Most Singaporeans can speak English which is also a huge plus in today's IT world

One of the best roads in the world. Besides numerous flyovers & expressways, a limited quota of vehicles is issued, keeping the vehicle population in check

Its justice system shoud also be one of the best. On an average, it takes only about 6 weeks to decide a case

Its Govt departments should also be the most efficient. Response time is minimum, work moves very fast here

It was awarded as the best city in Asia to do business in 1998, 1999, 2006

Its infrastructure is also one of the best in the world. This includes world's best airport, world's busiest port, a very efficient and highly successful telecommunication giant, highly efficient water & electricity system, no-traffic-jam roads, world's best airline, reliable, air-conditioned & most efficient public transport system, most efficient Govt depts, public amenities, housing, industrial land, office buildings, world class banks, most modern post offices, world class insurance companies, multi-channel TV station etc. etc.

Just for example, if you need an industrial land or flatted factory or office space for your business, these are available in all sizes and at every location of Singapore - choice is yours

It has also been voted as the freest economy in the world - a hassle free, no-red-tape country

And what about its strategic location.Would it be successful if it were in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Would it survive if the Isthmus of Kra was built?

China is not no.1 in everything, but people still invest loads of $$$ there,S'pore's strife to be no.1 in everything shows its insecurity in ASEAN coz it knows that it will have compete hard for FDI in ASEAN. Example, Port of Tanjung Pelepas already handle 10 million TEU and took away 2 important customers,Evergreen and Maersk from Singapore's port, and Port of Tg.Pelepas only opened in 2001 and not even the top 10 ports in the world while KLIA is attracting more and more Low Cost Carriers to its KLIA hub. S'pore must not always think that its neighbours are going backwards, they are getting better, slowly, but getting better.

I know rico will also hentam me but I cannot help it.... embarassedlaugh.gif ..this is a Malaysian Chat.

Thank you for everyone's contribution to my post. As I have said before, I am not here to compare nor flame. I think I share with doc's view that their achievement is remarkable. When I was doing my postgraduate studies, we debate on why Malaysia-Singapore compete where co-operation and synergy with both countries is better than competition.

I think learning of what each country can contribute to each economy is better. Trying to work together, learning the secret to success, and whole lot of other things would optimise the resources of both countries instead of using the same resources for the same purpose. Malaysia too have their achievements which singapore would dream to have and when 2 join in to think of one solution, many things can achieve but when 2 collide....then a lot shall be wasted

Singlish Poetry.....

I am Ong Ah Bee living in Kampong Chai Chee
Life used to be simple and HAPPY
I worked hard in my STUDIES
I learned A-B-C, and everything from 1, 2, and 3.
Primary school was quite easy
I passed PSLE

Then I went to SECONDARY
The subjects include HISTORY, GEOGRAPHY
Physics, Biology and CHEMISTRY
After O levels I went to JC
I was quite LUCKY

This is a small humid tropical COUNTRY
Surrounded by unknown potential ENEMIES
Boys turned 18 must go to ARMY
After that we may continue our Studies
The girls can just sit back, relax, and watch TV
They come to this world only to "Chia Liao Bi"

No one lives on free meals or depends on CHARITY
I had no money to go to University or Poly
So I went to work at a FACTORY
Trying to earn a little lousy SALARY
After CPF and INCOME TAX,
I have just enough money to buy ROTI & ride in MRT.

Colleagues at work used to be FRIENDLY
Always treat me to tea and COFFEE
Somehow they turned FISHY
Passing bad remarks about me
Telling everybody I am LAZY.

My bosses show me no SYMPATHY
Mumbling over my shoulder daily:"HURRY, HURRY and HURRY!"
Accusing me of always trying to get MC
But my sickness was due to over stretch OT
Going home after midnight by TAXI and
They pay me only bus fee

I Park-Tor and became STEADY
Finally had to MARRY
I lost money holding Wedding Dinner PARTY
Cheeky friends donating only cheap PANTY
After marriage, nothing was EASY

In one year, I became DADDY
I can't support my family and our BABY
Being tied down for life to repay HDB and
rising monthly utilities to PUB
My bank account has NO MONEY
POSB balance is almost EMPTY
DBS wants to charge me EXTRA FEE
Insisting that "Nothing is FREE!"
So I moonlight as KARANG GUNI

Many times I want to jump into the sea to MATI
But that is not EASY
My wife cries: "Who is going to support me and our BABY?"
So I can't MATI .

I went to seek assistance from the MP
His reply was simple and easy:
"Vote for me, vote for me, vote for me".
He never tell me any convincing Policy.
My dear friends, can you pls help Ong Ah Bee ?

My view.. SG is closer to Malaysia chat than the chinese chat.. icon_redface.gif

I would have thought so too. Singapore culture is virtually identical to Malaysian.

Well...probably that's because they don't really understand what it means and the exact impact of this kiasu-ness on people.
