Thailand sticks to all previous agreements with Cambodia

The current Thailand government promises to continue to carry out all the agreements approved by its former cabinet with the Cambodian government in order to strengthen bilateral ties, said government spokesman and Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith on Sunday.

Thailand's military-installed premier Surayud Chulanont said this to his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen while they held a one- hour meeting during his one-day official visit to the kingdom, Kanharith told reporters at a press conference held inside the Council of Ministers.

Meanwhile, Hun Sen said that despite the event of coup in Thailand, Cambodia will still cooperate warmly with the neighbor like before, "because this event is just the internal affair of the Thai people."

Chulanont's visit also aims to introduce himself to the ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries' leaders right after he came to power on Oct. 1, he added.

His visit to Laos on Saturday, to Cambodia on Sunday, and to other ASEAN countries in the upcoming days will help beef up regional cooperation, the minister said.

During the meeting, Hun Sen asked the Thai authority to help transport by railways the materials offered by Malaysia to the kingdom.

He also requested Chulanont to attend a top-level meeting among Cambodia, Thailand and Laos to develop tourism in the border areas.

"This project has already been confirmed at a meeting of foreign ministers of the three countries, but it is not decided yet," said Kanharith.

Meanwhile, both sides agreed to continue their cooperation to explore natural resources, especially oil, in the Thailand Gulf Sea, he said.

Besides, Hun Sen asked the Thailand government to finish the construction of National Road 48, 67 and 18, which was promised by the Thaksin Shinawatra cabinet. All these roads are next to the Cambodian-Thai border in Bantey Meanchey Province.

Along the border, Hun Sen proposed to open a new gate for import and export of commodities, while keeping the old gate for tourists transit only.

In addition, Chalnont requested Cambodia's cooperation to combat bird flu, which is epidemic within the region.

He also promised to Hun Sen that Thailand will have democratic elections soon to push forward its democracy.

Both prime ministers plan to meet each other again at the China- ASEAN Commemorative Summit to be held in China soon.

This is Chulanont's first trip abroad since he was sworn in as Thailand's new prime minister on Oct. 1, replacing Thaksin Shinawatra who was overthrown in a bloodless coup on Sept. 19.

This is what I call mutual relationship! Thailand will help Cambodia with fisheries, building roads as well as naval demarcations; in return Cambodia will cooperate with Thailand in combating bird flu as well as maintain close and warm diplomatic relationship.

I like this. I like it very much!!

Mr Shinawatra said that he'd hand over all sea boundaries in the disputed zone as well as hand over three provinces by the end of this year, Surin, Sisaket and Buriram. Then by 2010 Cambodia will also have Nakhon Ratchasima and Sa Kaeo... love2.gif biggthumpup.gif icon_wink.gif

Nice to know Mr Surayud Chulanont will honour these agreements... embarassedlaugh.gif embarassedlaugh.gif embarassedlaugh.gif embarassedlaugh.gif

lol or so you would like it eh? laugh.gif

There will be no handing over of provinces. Particularly not Thai territory to any foreign power; I'm just happy Thailand is being extroverted and optimistic to help cambodia with road buildings as well as naval demarcation (though I feel it will be conservative at best--considering the military is in power).

The bird flu is a major concern for both Thai and Cambodian authorities--extensive cooperation on both sides would serve to protect both our peoples.

Surin, Srisaket, Buriram, Sa Kaeo and Nakorn Ratchasima is ours.

Hypothetical Question: Why would Thailand surrender Nakorn Ratchasima when the province is home to a large Royal Thai Army Base as well as home to 3 squadrons of the Royal Thai Air Force? lol.

There are over 60,000+ Royal Thai Armed Forces personell stationed around the greater Nakorn Ratchasima area---just remember that icon_wink.gif

Yes, a 'donation' to the Cambodian Army no less. The Thai government is very generous these days. ^_^

Sirikittong I think the Thai had show off too much bro and I see no action yet, like the military and the navy they are only a polished machine of men holding guns and wearing uniform. Event the cuope thier tanks was so shinny and haven seen action for quite some time now. What ever squandrons you have that does not tell the streng untill battle time. Remember the soviet steam roller thoery that was rubbish when the German show them. Nice uniform is that what I can say now but put a bunch of Khmer Rouge soldiers and the Thai would have to call 3 divisions.

Thai is nothing but just part of a stolen society and just remember this you are worshipping a Khmer King hehehe.

Dear SavarnaphumKhmer,
I can understand your frustrations and concerned about our people and Nation. However, we should not antaganize our neighbors and among ourselves at the same time. Thailand is our neighbor and it is very large in term of economic, geographical and population size. Socially and politically Thailand, is very stable and that have contributed it to the economic and population booms. For Thailand to extend its assistance to our struggling Nation is a gesture of good will. It does not mean Thailand wanted to infiltrate or invade our home land.
The world that we are living in is not the same as it was 50 years ago. Economic and social stability is the key to succeed in the future and war is no longer the major component in any nations' road to success. Although, Thailand helping Cambodia would benifit us but also it will benifit Thailand. When Cambodia become socially and economically well off, us and our neighbor will benifit; the people in our region will be at peace. I am sure you would agree with that.
Since the day I was borned war is all around me and participated in many conflicts from the boarders of Cambodia/Thailand as a child soldier to an adult participating in wars in the Persian Gulf. I have seen death and destructions all around me; and no one benifit from wars; only the God of War. As I am growing older I want to retire to a peaceful Cambodia, not the warring states that I knew from childhood years.
We can help our people by bring in education, scientific learning, social stability and political tranparencies.

People that study business and economic never really though what they are really study anyway and all they know is economy is good and it benefit one another and apart from that they have no clue who is suffering from it. In my life I always have respect for men and women who lost thier life for a country and for other benefits and it said to the wife crying over a husband death when no one can help her, it is sad to see a child die in his father hands.

To put things in perspective, you are very patriotic and so much merits will be given to you. icon_wink.gif Your concern is very wide spread and it is very highly thought of, but however there are ways that we can deal with our social problems. Whatever is happening and will happen in Cambodia and the Khmerrrrr people and cultures is entirely up to us as Cambodians. Our so called leaders are just well dressed thieves with lots of cronies with guns and with ranks such as stars and stripes on their shoulders to make them look legitimate as Rulers of State. "Cleptarcracy" is so well ingrained in our society that it will destroy us all if we don't address it.
We cannot antagonize our neighbors such as the Thais and the Viets and blaming them as our mortal enemies who want to steal our land. It is all up to us Khmer, to determine our own fates. The Viets that come into Cambodia, is just people who are looking for a bitter life and Cambodia is just the place for that. Cambodia is a vacuum for such migrations and it will continue until the Kingdom of Kampuchea decide that it will not take any more. Cambodia is a sizeable country with so much irrigable land that will produce so much to feed at least 100 million peoples and more. Just look at Japan and her little irrigable land and her almost 2 hundred million peoples. I just came back from living two years over there. I met many of our Khmer people there and Viets, Thais, laos, Koreans,etc..... some are legals and many are illegals.
If you doubt my understanding then just look at the United States southern boarders then you'll understand why I said what I said. Viets, Thais, Khmer, Mexicans, Europeans, etc.... will fill the vacuum of any space that will give them an opportunities and their childrens. If you are not convince then look at yourself and where you are at.
I'll write more if you are not satisfied. I have to go because I have to wake up early in the morning and escort a military prisoner from the China Lake to San Diego and it will take about 6 hours.

Thank you for your reply and how you understand and we all have different views:

First let me clear this, Cambodia is not America but our politicans spent American dollars like a rich bastards, other than that America is rich and can accomodate such needs but its still a problems. As for Cambodia we are poor little begger accepts those politicains who drink all night and there is not enough food to go around. The tonle Sap is the Khmer main resource and we greatly depended on, if you want to respect others they better look at themself first because thier government doest not seem to care or look after the people at all. Cambodia has too many problems already and we don't want two or three more when we can't event deal with one. If we cannot do anything now and just wait and wait the problem will be never solve and you will know what happen. People take advantage of Cambodia whe we have moron politicians and monkey people and i'm sure about it. You know I always hope that Cambodia could become something great so we can give some hands to Africa and our nieghbor because Khmer are a kind hearted people. People can co-exist if live the life that is respectable and obey the law of that country and it wouldn't be great to see prositution roaming the street for sucky $5 and if you have study about the sex slave you would know why. If Cambodia can feed 100 millions but why are people starving and part of the region? Everyone know that Cambodian is the magetic resoruces and everyone wants it. These day nothing is free and if it was free please don't forget to read the fine print. If you want Cambodian to help each than it should start now. Not just help but also education and justice because lessons needs to learn because some of us just a government tools.

Lemongrass if your family had suffer under the Khmer Rouge regime you should start to learn something now because education is the way to go or else you're just going blind. Some people said the are an expert but no one really know what is the Khmer Rouge is about and i'm sure you will not want to learn that tragic time.

Define the problems and separate it before you can solve any problem and its not like you want to look for a needle in a haystack. In any government system the people are they tools, and some of us use thier status to strengten thier believe but had no clue what is really going on outsude thier world. People can be nice if they are illegally live under your house. Yours reply is welcome
