The best thing to do is to laugh and exaggerate, and when they try to attack you defend yourself.

Be sarcastic and wish them luck in the unemployment line. If they want to fight, I take a step back and prepare to defend myself from any severe damage. Don't get put in headlocks, don't turn your back, or get pummelled while flat on your back. I know how to fight pretty well so no problem, but I'm never really ready to initiate, meaning I don't attack. I fight back really well.

If you're in a dark alley, and there is more than one person, the guy is armed, or the guy is so big and physically capable; keep your mouth shut! You will get killed, right or wrong. If you're in an area where the fight can't or won't last long, use your judgement and save face. You won't get in trouble for talking back and then defending yourself if the guy decides to lose his cool because you're smarter.
