I found it really odd when I went to Vietnam, are they afraid of getting dark, or of sun cancer? It so hot, so I don't know how a person can stand it, I was going crazy from the heat and I wore shorts all summer, people looked at me like i was nuts though. The girls there looked like they were getting ready for winter, they even covered their faces, toe socks and gloves, the guys dont, they just wear hats. When i asked my mom about it she said it wasn't like that when she grew up there, do you think because of global warming had an impact too?

No.. it's just they're getting more self-concious about their image. Being pale is being beautiful in most Asian country. It's just like American female stars paying $$$ just to get tanned. Most of them don't wear though stuff at night if you haven't realized

Alot of times in Vietnam during the summer, the Sun hurts...really hurts if you are not covered right. I went for a walk to a cafe vi tinh once, and it REALLY burns...My neck --> icon_redface.gif this red

So you are telling me that 105 degree here in the US is more worst than 105 degree in Vietnam?

You and most tourists are probably gonna be around for a few weeks but the locals have to deal with the SE Asia's most scorching heat and not to mentioned the poluted surrounding from manufacturing plants, other motor vehicles, and dusts. They have to deal with it 365 days in a year and if you live there long enough you better get with the program as well biggthumpup.gif

Oh really? I can probably delay my trip to Vietnam to summer then. I was afraid for 105 degree without air conditioner.
LVF
@cuteo: well they can face the heat in america, why can't they face the heat in vietnam? the heat here is even harsher than in vietnam in summer.

well, i guess they have air conditioners everywhere here so they dont have to face it everyday.
just like they always have their heat running during the freaking cold winter

^air pollution in Vietnam is ubiquitous. The EPA in the USA has strict guidelines I guess.

Girls/guys riding motorbike or being outside covering their face is to prevent dust and pollution and the sun too.
You don't want to breath in those dust and motorbike emission like I did.
I rode motorbike from Saigon to Suoi Tien without covering my face and I had a thick layer of dust on my face. bawling.gif
Covering their arms and hand is to prevent tan line. In the West, we guys take off our shirt when we are playing in the sun so we don't get that ugly tan line too. biggrin.gif

Living in the Bay Area, the thing that I see recently is girls/women wearing those Dark Face Visor and I think its mostly Chinese people. Has this catch up in Vietnam yet??? First time I saw this, I thought its Dar Vador mask. laugh.gif Haven't seen a white person or male wearing in person yet.

Have you or will you ever going to experience below zero wind to the face?
This is the sole reason why I want to move to Texas.

The Sun in Vietnam is really hot. But in the US, the Summer is really humid and wet. I always feel a nasty wet feel whenever I breathe in during a hot summer day.

The sun in vietnam may be very hot but atleast I can still breathe right.

As developing countries are getting more and more industrialized, with more factories and plants being built, producing tons of toxic wastes polluting the surrounding soil, water, and air, not to mention the "contribution" from developed countries, you could expect to see "That fu-king hole in the ozone layer" getting bigger and bigger , and the earth getting hotter and hotter in the coming years.

One negative aspect of globalization is global warming and the depletion of the ozone layer.

Uhhh, I hope you know that it's ALMOST exactly the opposite.
Vietnam is VERY humid which sometimes gives off the illusion of it being hotter than it really is. 80 degrees F in vietnam may feel like 90 because of the humidity.

The US is never that humid unless you're in a few states, mainly the eastern seaboard. Florida is a humid state sorta like Vietnam's climate.

In california, it is never as humid as it is in Vietnam. The summer is NOT humid or wet in most parts of the US, especially california. It is somewhat dry and not humid.

In vietnam, when it gets really humid is usually when it rains.

I'm surprised by the way you are describing Vietnam, you are describing it almost COMPLETELY wrong. confused.gif

Girls/women in Vietnam like to keep their skin beautiful. In addition, wearing those protective gears/clothes is fashionable and modern. icon_smile.gif

i actually think its more humid in vietnam, i couldn't breathe and it got to the point where I started getting nose bleeds. kinda gross i know. it was so hot that i was crying but no one noticed because i was sweating so much. i live in a realitivly cold area here so maybe i was'nt use to it. i dont ever want to go back during the summer again. it was insane. off topic but, how is it like during "tet?" ive only been to chinatown tet.

It depends on where you are at, I live in Bakersfield and it is like 95-105 everyday which i think it is way hotter than Vietnam. The only thing i hate is it is too humid but since my grandmothers live next to the ocean it not as bad as Bakersfield

EDIT: I just re-read your post, you're saying Vietnam is way more humid than bakersfield right? if that's the case, then I wholly agree with you.

Bakersfield has a pretty damn low humidity. For example, deserts have really low humidity, while tropical areas have a high humidity.

Bakersfield humidity is at 20%

while Saigon, Vietnam has about 90% humidity.

I am not used to Fahrenhit and apparently I have done a bad unit conversion. It should be around 70-80

Bakersfield, California is just as hot as Las Vegas, Nevada. You should move closer to the coast.

Girls in Vietnam should cover their faces from the scorching sun to preserve their fair complexion. When I was in Vietnam last summer, an aunt of mine who plays tennis everyday scared the heck out of me when I saw her without make-up for the first time. Evidently, the sun damage took its toll.

I can read vietnamese and sound out the words, but my vocabulary is very limited.

Let me take a stab at it:

Yes, don't dare to mention my ----... ---- ---- ----

I think I might be way off on my guess. Anyways, LVF, you type damn good english for only being in the US for a year. I want to live in Vietnam for a year, you think my Vietnamese will improve substantially? I want to be VERY fluent.
LVF
^ go for it. when you live around Vietnamese, you'll learn Vietnamese at a speed that you could never imagine

btw, you ARE way off
