All I know is that a Republican by the name of Earl Warren OPENLY supported such racist camps during WWII.

Would someone else please submit their names?

Earl Warren was the supreme court justice at the time. He was a very progressive justice and his Supreme Court managed to decide many important cases throughout the several decades he had the position. BUT, his biggest mistake definitely was the Japanese internment camps. Not only did the decision get almost a unanimous vote in the Supreme Court, the President, FDR, even supported it. It was believed that the Japanese were an imminent threat to internal security of the US. They believed that the Japanese nissei were acting as spies for the Imperial government.

Some interesting facts are:
1. Over 50% of those imprisoned in the concentration camps were American citizens.
2. The rest would have all been citizens too if under current citizenship laws. At the time, no Asian was allowed to apply for citizenship unless they were born in the US and had lived in the States for a substantial amount of time. And not to mention Japanese immigration was halted after the Gentleman's Agreement made by Teddy Roosevelt.
3. No nissei turned out to be a spy.
4. Many nissei fought for the American army and fought with great honor.
5. Japanese didn't receive compensation until the 1970s. The survivors were given a measly $20,000 (not 100% sure of the numbers) in return for losing all of their life possessions.
