I never heard of this word until a couple of years ago. These Pathans are as Desi as they come. Maybe a minority are actually purely of Afghan descent, but the majority seems to be full of BS. I don't think any actual Pashtun in Afghanistan would accept the womanizing Salman Khan spawn from a Hindu mother as one of their own kind.

The Pathans of India have mixed Pashtun-Indian descent. It's only the Pashtuns of Pakistan and Afghanistan that are mostly pure. India only has about half a million pure Pashtuns.

Ha..The key emphasis is "Pashtun." Afghans have told me that the word "Pathan" is offensive, and isn't used in their culture.

Its interesting to note that even Afghanistan itself is not purely Pashtun. There are also significant amounts of Balochis, Hazara and even Kamboj in Afghanistan.

The Pashtuns in Pakistan and Afghanistan don't consider Pathans in India to be the same as them, because they don't speak Pashto and because they're diluted with Indian blood.


The Kamboj have Indo-Iranian origins and have both Indic and Iranic affinities. The Kamboj in Gujarat look like typical Gujus to me though, and the same goes for the Kamboj in Sri Lanka and Cambodia.

But, don't you think some of the "Pathans" in Pakistan might be questionable? Pakistanis also call themselves "Pathan," speak Urdu, and look no different than any other Pakistani Punjabi.

I meant the "Pashtuns" in Pakistan who actually speak Pashto (there are about 28 million in Western Pakistan). The "Pathans" in Pakistan who don't speak Pashto are pretty much the same as the ones in India.

pathans are actually people of NWFP in pakistan and southern afghanistan who speak pashto.... there are more pathans in pakistan than even afghanistan....afghanistan just like pakistan is an artificial creation....it was punjabi paktoon ahmed shah abdali (born in multan in pakistan) who conquered most of the tribes in afghanistan and united them....present day afghanistan is legacy of his empire minus NWFP of pakistan...

Pashtuns can be dark but they are usually light. They are the lightest people in Afghanistan according to stormfront.com They even had a picture of a blond adult Pashtun up i'll see if I can find it.

Most Pashtuns in Pakistan are pure but there are mixes everywhere even in Afghanistan. I know a guy who moved here from California and hes half hazara and half pashtun from Afghanistan.

Most Persians and Pashtuns are not "white" like Europeans but they do generally have light skin. Pashtuns are believed to be descendants of Eastern Iranian nomads from Central Asia, such as the Parthians and Scythians. I've heard Jats are also believed to be descendants of Indo-Scythians.

Really I've heard that Persians are white, even in the European sense. Even white nationalist say that(some). And they're like the original Aryans etc... I'm talking about Persians, not all Iranians. Maybe I'm wrong.

The average Persians on the streets of Iran are not as light as their celebs, although some could pass for Greeks or Italians. Most Persians however have a skin tone similar to their President Ahmadinejad, who certainly doesn't look white. paktoons , iranians , afghans are mountaneus people and look just like our kashmiris....even their languages and customs are quite similar. they can be dark and light both..on an average a paktoon is tiny bit lighter than average indian...but not like europeans..they are light brown not white.

Oh, well I was under the impression Persians were genetically white as Europeans. I've heard the word Iran means, the land of the Aryans. And Persians call themselves Aryan all the time, so to some it does involve race. In fact if you go on to You Tube you can find alot of videos of Persian nationalist. There's alot of Arab vs. Persian stuff on there. And they hate each other. Persians do not consider themselves Arab. I'm sure Iran has minorities, but it's mostly white Persians. I've read more than once that they are 100% genetically the same as Europeans, so that would make them white. In every sense of the word.Other organizations like PANF, wouldn't include them as a white nation.

Radha, I think you've been reading too much white nationalist propoganda. "Aryan" is not a race, it's a language family. Anyone who speaks an Indo-Iranian language related to Sanskrit or Persian is an Aryan. Europeans don't speak Indo-Iranian languages, therefore they are not Aryans.

Some Persians may look Greek or Italian but the majority of Persians are not white, genetically or phenotypically. Persians probably look more Latino rather than white. Maybe you should check out the "Hot Iranian chicks" thread and make up your own mind:
