I was just wondering why India Chat was even created here. I mean, most people think of Asians as East Asians. And we're the most different group from all the other nationalities on this forum, everyone else is of east/south east asian descent, being Oriental, except for us.

Plus, we're one of the smallest groups here, so I was wondering why this India Chat was made in the first place? I keep feeling as though we don't belong here, we're too different and alienated from these other orientals.

Thats not true! We south east asians find our indian bretheren as equals. South Asia, South East Asia, East Asia.

India chat belongs here just as much as any other cultural chat...only americans consider east and southeast asians as true "asians," while the rest of the world considers indians as asians as well. maybe that's why only americans even refer to east and southeast asians as "asian," while the rest of the world calls them oriental. and yes, i know it is offensive to call anyone oriental, i did not mean any offense...just making a point.

i'm getting really tired of hearing ppl whine about india chat being on this site. get over it. india is in asia, and therefore indians are asian. Asian is a geographical term, not a racial one.

and those racist threads were closed because they offended many ppl, not just east and southeast asians, but other races including other indians. to say all indians are racist based on a few threads is ridiculous considering there are racist threads in every cultural forum on this site.

me and acmilan were talking about how america prides on diversity and acceptance, yet so many of them don't even want to consider us South Asians as "Asian."

There's plenty of racist threads on Chinese chat, all chats have trolls. It just depends on who the mods are.

It's really a sorry state that Indians are in actually. Whites obviously don't accept them. East asians don't really either. I think Indians are in a kind of limbo. The thread starter really hit the mark on this one.

Also, Indians are probably some the most racist people out there. Many people complain that Koreans/Japanese are so xenophobic. I'd like to see a thread started here on Indian racism. I've met a number of Indian racists in real life that as well as reading the posts on this chat that makes me think that racism is pretty common among Indians.

I love Indian people. I would interact more in the Indian chats but some of the threads seem to always encircle topics that are just strictly for Indians. So, I tend to back off. On the other hand, I haven't really been exposed to authenic Indian culture aside from a few friends and Bollywood movies. But, please know that you're wanted here.

Whoever said we wanted wanted to be excepted by whites. India is more diverse than all of East Asia, but we're more racists? No the internet doesn't speak for 1billion people. Who's complaining about being victims of racism?

You can't say indians are anymore racist than chinese, whites or blacks. Everybody has issues.

You can't generalize a billion people based on just a few you've met. Every race has its fair share of racist people, and people from every race whine about how they're the victims of racism or political correctness. How are Indians any different? India is one of the most diverse and multicultural countries in the world, and hence among the most tolerant (except for rural populations).

That's right, Western countries borrowed the concept of affirmative action from India, although a lot of people these days really don't like the idea of affirmative action (i.e. minorities having more slightly rights than the majority).

im half indian that looks more indian than southeast asian. in fact nobody thinks i have chaptay blood. i thought af would be ideal place for me. id go to filo chat then here. of course eventually i really had not much to say in filo chat coz i dont know their history, politics, or celebs like i know indian stuff. im close to my dad, thats why.

Why don't you blame the British for everything (especially when they basically united your country and created an India in the first place). They might have instituted the caste system (I need to do research on this), but it's the Indians who perfected it. And if Indians were so fair-minded why submit to this racist practice? I don't think British held a gun to their head. It's no secret that Indians have the most oppressive class system known in the modern world. It's disgusting how Indians treat fellow Indians. And don't me started on the treatment of women (I hear wife-murder is quite common). Don't preach to me about how tolerant Indian society is, when you and I know that is hardly from the truth.
