bacteria/parasites

Anyway the fish has to be fresh, its not like you can just use any old fish.

Obviously, eating bad fish or anything with bacteria / parasites will get u sick.
But thats not what the thread starter was implying. It seems he tends to ask odd questions.

sushi means the rice in japanese. sashimi is more what you think about when you think of just raw fish pieces.

Parasites you see on a fish can't reach the brain, it has to enter the blood system first, which it can't since fish is usually the secondary host for most parasites, meaning they are too big to enter human blood systems. Besides, the meat on fish being prepared for sushi is usually cleaned, and the skin and intestents removed, which is where most parasites are.
Now pork is a different story though. Several types of parasites remain on the muscle in a crystae form, or even smaller spore-like form, which can get past the digestive system tract and effect other regions, which can include the brain. That's why you never eat raw pork.
