Okay I just got back from watching this movie, and it was SOOOOOOO GOOD! The story was really good, and the acting done by the actors was great! Aishwariya Rai delivered exceptionally good acting in this movie, she's really good at this prostitute thing The costumes in this movie were superb, and I wished I had some of the costumes Aish was wearing
I really thought that the story was really good, and that the way it was performed looked really good. The thing was that it was a rather serious story, and should not be reccomended if you're not really that into musical, cause there are A LOT! of songs in this movie

Anyways I'm kinda drunk, and excited right now, and need to go. So everyone else give their opinions on this movie, cause it gets 6 from me

She was a prostitute in this one other European movie too.... I think.......

One thing I forgot commenting on. The dialouges were sooo poetic, and they were in pure Urdu. Even if they'd insult eachother it would sound so nice But yeah the language used is kinda hard to understand if you don't have it subtitled

Well, there was this movie called 'Chaos' that Aishwariya starred in with Meryl Streep which was remake of a French movie of the same name.

that cant be right. aishu would never do that. EVER. and she's not a prostitute in umrao jaan, either. she is a courtesan. courtesans dont have sex. they just sing & compose urdu poetry just like rekha ji did in the previous umrao jaan.

LOL singing, dancing and reciting Ghalib's poetry are definitely not the only things a Tawaif had to do. And the Tawaif in Janab Mirza Hadi Ruswa's Novel Umrao Jaan Ada and the movie based on the Novel was a Prostitute!

Well if you watch the movie you see that the character Umrao becomes Umrao Jaan AFTER she has had sex with her first client.

i hate these kinda sick movies of prostitutes....

Well, 'courtesan' is a euphemism for prosititute the same way 'escort' is.

But if it makes you feel better, Aishwariya only takes classy roles. That means if she's going to play a prostitute, she will only play one that is tasteful and is cinematic. In Chaos, she plays an abused prostitute who is able to leave her life beind with the help of a rich woman (Meryl Streep). In this case, its a story of a woman's journey from the depths to freedom (rather than the story of a prostitute's exploits).

Najjiah sounds like blore boi getting defensive of Aish's sexual image.


My mom said it was village tradition to hire "prostitutes" to come dance when a man would get married. She said a "prostitute" back then was just someone who danced and let you throw money at her.


Or maybe nobody was telling her what they REALLY did behind closed doors.
