Japanese doctors hoping to restore sight to a 10-year-old Iraqi boy's left eye have completed surgery on the eye and believe it might regain some of its sight in a few months, a hospital spokesman said Friday.
Mohamad Haytham Saleh arrived in Japan last week on a trip arranged by a Japanese photojournalist who was killed last month in Iraq.

Two operations performed on Saleh in Iraq failed to restore sight to his left eye, which was pierced by glass shards during a gunbattle in Fallujah in November. His right eye was not harmed in the clash.

Friday's operation took about 30 minutes, said hospital spokesman Koichi Suzuki.

At the weekend, Saleh's doctors in Japan said they hoped he would be able to see with his left eye after the operation, but were reluctant to say how much sight he would recover.

A Rotary Club in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture, agreed to sponsor the boy and pay for his medical care.

This kid alone shouldn't get all the attention. There are many more innocent children who are getting hurt because of American negligence. I saw this boy on tv and he was just getting all the attention because he didn't get too hurt that he wasn't able to speak and do ordinary stuff.

On the show that they completely dedicated to him they showed him go to a new school because the Americans bombed his former school. In an interview he said stuff like, "How come they hurt me, I didn't do anything" in order to try to rake a tear from the audience. I personally feel bad for this kid but there are definitely people who have bigger problems than him who need to be saved.

I guess it is human nature.

When people killing each other at middle east, TV in Japan is talking about group of guys put their lives on jeopardy to save puppy left on flooded river.

Since people are too tired of seeing a lot of lives taken away, we want to make balance by focusing on very tiny incident happening just next to us, which will make us feel more like human. "human being is supposed to be like that"

This is healthy thing for normal people to go on their lives.
