Do people from Uttaranchal consider themselves UP-ites or something different.

They better consider themselves as Indian first. You know the states are just administrative divisions, but the division criteria is based on language of the majority of population in that particular region. The hills in U.P. wanted a separate state because the average politician in U.P. really don't give a damn about people in the hills. All the money used to be invested on the plains whereas hills get nothing. I have some friends from Uttaranchal, they are happy that Uttarakhand (Garhwal & Kamoan) got a separate identity. Now they have better prospects for development. As far as my observation goes they consider themselves as Garhwali or Kamoani.
