my niece too looks chinese .. and my sister isn't chinese and nor her husband and nobody in their family has chinese lienage any where.. there are more chances of a bengalis looking like mixed chinese than south indians..But my state AP which is loacted in south india is probably less south indian and more of maharastrian oreiented. same goes for karnataka too and the most chinese looking girl in my class was a maharastrian i mean completely chinese and her parents are not chinese!!!

Personal. I have a lot of Pakistani and Bengali friends. I only had one Indian friend oddly enough.

All my Pakistani friends that were male liked Bollywood actress', which is why I was telling Swathi about some of the people I know aren't like how she mentioned, but some did make some sly Bengali jokes (like calling them kaala and stuff like that) but they still got along with them.



Well Ive come to terms with my makeup, I cant change it. Not saying that if God asked me to be full Polynesian I wouldn't change it, but theres nothing to get riled up about.

Im the only Muslim in my family. I used to ask my Muslim friends about Muslim but you know how people are with religion, it's all just tradition. I don't know much about South Indian celebs, but thanks for telling me abour her mother. Different ethnic groups from throughout the subcontinent have migrated to other regions and mixed with other populations, so I'm not surprised at the way she looks. But you'll be surprised how many people out there don't know about their own people. I know plenty of Bengalis who know less about our own people's history than some non-Bengalis do.

But why do you keep referring to Far Eastern looking people as "Chinese"? You can just refer to them as Far Eastern or Eastern Asian looking instead. Most Northeast Indians got their Far Eastern features from Austro-Asiatics (related to Mons, Khmers and Vietnamese) or Tibeto-Burmans (related to Tibetans and Burmese), not necessarily from Chinese people. There's also a Malay minority in Sri Lanka (which is why I was suggesting it before).

I also grew up around Pakistanis all my life in London (arguably the most diverse city in the world). Maybe the Dubai Pakis are more racist than British Pakis? (Except for online forums, they always seem to bring out the worst in people)

I know what you meant by Asian, but I just felt like posting a link to that website (did you read it?). I don't think most Indian Americans actually mind whether or not they're called "Asian". But in Britain, "Asian" usually means South Asians, and "Asian" is how we identify ourselves here, so we do mind when some Americans exclude South Asians as not Asian.

A pale Paki boy at school called me Kala once, but I just called him Gori (white woman). But it's not just Pakis, even my Bengali sister (who is really pale) calls me Nigga sometimes, and I just call her Honky back. I'm actually quite proud of being dark (I even call myself Nigga sometimes for fun) and I just don't see the point why some darker Desis should be offended if another pale Desi calls them Kala.

Well I know that since I know people that would say, "Indians arent Asian". The funny thing is how people automatically group Arabs/Persians/Any Middle Eastern with South East Asians. Makes no sense at all, but I guess thats what you get when the media messes up. Muslim = Arab = Indian when most Muslims are in Indonesia and most Arabs in America are Christian

One thing though, I remember watching Saturday Night Live and they had a skit on Bin Laden. They had it to where he was on a tape on a show similar to Al Jazeera. Funny thing is that the script that they used didnt even remotely look like Arab...it was Devanagari Romanized Script.
