Heheh, how's my Indonesian? icon_wink.gif

The top of this building is really smart, especially when it's lit up at night.
There are a few big projects going on in Jakarta right now rite. I remember reading something bout the Sudirman building, or was it the Menara Jakarta? I dunno...

Hi... all,

Being away from home, sometimes a think often of Jakarta. icon_wink.gif The city that offers so much excitement, and the unbelivable nightlifes (if you know where to go), especially the food and restaurant scenes. So, to those of you have pictures or can take pictures in Jakarta, please post up some pictures here icon_smile.gif

Dank je Schat icon_wink.gif Funny I always think people who visit places like this are from Jakarta.

Right after this Jakarta visit I went to Cirebon and also made a few pictures. This part is not really finished, it needs some text. But no time at the moment. I am preparing for "pulang kampung" to stay there for 2 months

Here the link : KLIK LAGI

Bye-2

If you know the name of Jl. Thamrin dahulu pictures are easy to find. The part of Batavia is Weltevreden.

Kind regards

Londoh

Jl Thamrin did not exist during colonial times. In 1949, the southernmost part of Jakarta is Menteng and the Thamrin area was rice fields and kampungs. Jl Thamrin was only laid in 1960 by President Sukarno as connection to the Senayan Sports Stadium, then being built for Asian Games 1962.

In 1950, Jln Merdeka Barat ended at what is now the Bank Indonesia complex. What is now Jl Thamrin area was totally unbuilt rural area.

Jl Thamrin in 1965. Building under construction is Sarinah shopping centre, on the horizon is the newly-built Hotel Indonesia.

Jl Thamrin looking to Monas in 1970s, big building on the right is Sarinah Shopping Centre

Jl Thamrin to the direction of Kebayoran in 1980s, taken from Hotel Indonesia

home.wanadoo.nl/ed.vos/bali/indonesia/jakarta1.htm

@ londoh: Weltevreden is not Thamrin area, it is what is now the Lapangan Banteng area.
