UNTV show apologizes

A TALK show aired on UNTV 37, a UHF station, got in trouble with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) on account of a spiel loaded with sexual innuendo.

In a Nov. 2 memorandum signed by board chair Ma. Consoliza P. Laguardia, the show “Chika Mo, Chika Ko” was put to task for violations reportedly committed on Sept. 16 by its host, identified by board secretary Gloria de los Reyes as lawyer Batas Mauricio.
The show airs Saturdays, 6 to 7 p.m.

Laguardia’s memo said Mauricio uttered the following remark: “Ano ang latest kay [young actor] Carlo Aquino? Dako pa rin … Maliit daw pero saksakan ng laki! [What’s the latest with Carlo Aquino? He’s still big! He’s short but huge!]”

The next shot showed sexy starlet and co-host Allona Amor “holding a microphone suggestively and saying ‘Wow!’”

Laguardia’s letter was addressed to Good Catch Entertainment’s Roderick Masa, executive producer, who was invited to the board’s Quezon City office on Nov. 9.

In the meeting, Good Catch was represented by Jovan Marquez who “readily admitted” the violation.

The program was suspended for two episodes, Nov. 11 and 18. Its producer was instructed to write an apology addressed to the board chair.

Lastly, the show’s hosts were asked to assure the public that the violation would not be repeated once the show returns on air.

On Nov. 18, Masa sent a letter of apology to Laguardia, “with regard to the misbehavior on our program.”

He “accepted” the suspension order and “promised never to commit the same mistake in our live program, but we will never suppress [our hosts’] freedom of speech.”

He also stated that the hosts would issue a public apology in the show’s Nov. 25 episode.
