For the past few years we have been bombarded with a lot of reality show whereby the home audience are invited to cast their vote through SMS / internet and for many of these shows the winners are solely being determinted by the number of public votes they received. Do you think this kind of voting system to determine a winner is fair. Many times we could see that some not so deserving contestants triumph over more deserving ones simply because they received more votes ( maybe due to their looks, family background (status, influential etc) but not due to the particular talent that the show is looking for. Family/friends of a rich contestants can afford to cast a lot of votes for him/her and this would definitely make this contestants a more popular one. Recently even international beauty pageants have adopted this system simply because to attract more viewers.
Reality shows seem to become more and more populars around the world but these shows are burning big holes on our young boys and girls pockets whereas the telecommunication companies conduct the voting are laughing all the way to the banks.
Personally I would prefer 50% of the result to be determined by the public votes whereas another 50% to be determined by professional judges. Then at least there would be some fairness.

^I was a big fan of the Misadventures of Maverick and Ariel but at that time it kept clashing with the schedule of Jessica's Zafra's radio show twisted. I like On Air too but I think the show's defunct.

No, I am not referring to any particular show but it's my general view. Actually I have nothing against reality show. Just like you I don't watch them very often and it is certainly not because I am frustrated because my favorites have been voted out. Infact reality shows are harmless and many even have became family shows where the whole family sit and watch together. I just don't feel happy with the way the big telcos are exploiting the young peoples (most of them teenagers and even kids) for their profit sake. Yes you are right its our choice whether to vote or not but young peoples are easily tempted to vote with all the publicity of the shows and the intense competition. It is not common to find that not only are the contestants competing but the audience are competing among themselves as well as who has voted the most times and for which contestants unaware at the same time they have "sent out" a huge sum of their money. I am sad to see these peoples are not from well to do family and wasted a huge sum of their parents hard earned money on these shows.

Making these shows isn't cheap either that's a noh duh.
Well it's not an uncommon fact for buissnesses to use the media to advertise to youngin's mostly since
we are the highiest money spenders in the economy; that's another no duh.
Like I mentioned it's your choice, to how you would spend your money. So good for you if you think it's not worth a peso to spend on.
All I can say is, this is entertainment... It means buissness and that means money making err making money... yah
