I heard / read somewhere that the average Japanese lifespan is like 5 years or so higher than the average European lifespan.

The highest number of centaurians live in Japan.

Cool huh?

They say it has to do with their healthy lifestyles.

I want to mimic their lifestyle. Healthy living is much more fruitful not just long term but also on a daily basis.. more fruitful. You have more energy to do things, and you feel healthy... so you are in a good mood and good spirits.

ahhh JackWang, the infamous Japanophile/house slave. So we meet.

As for why people in Japan have so much longevity, it could be due to a variety of factors, but I put it at plain dumb luck. The Japanese diet isn't particularly more healthy than many westerners. You'll find plenty of ramen slurping, chain smoking salarymen. The Japanese health system is adequate, but inferior to that of the U.S. (if you can afford to pay). As for exercise, thats a whole load of balogny, the people in the U.S. are far more infatuated with exercise and health consciousness than Japan.

By the way, here is a website listing the average life exptancies of several places. Andorra rounds up the list as number 1 (rural sheep farmers/f*ckers), with Macau, San Marino, Singapore, and Hong Kong, rounding up the rest of the top 5 (in that order, Japan is number 6).

Aint it the Okinawans who have the longest lives on average in Greater Japan?
Nam Quoc Son Ha
It's strange that the females in my family tree lives to the ripe old ages. My great grandma died at around 92 and her sister 88, while my grandma is 72 and she's as strong as anyone. However, the males in my family had a history of early deaths. My great grandpa died before my grandma was born. My grandma's husband died in his early 40s, and my grandma's son (my uncle) died when he was 10. Wicked

Well I've been palm read and told that I'd live till the ripe old age. Hopefully so LOL

Discipline is awesome. I love and total respect people who can do that.

:-) Their culture is amazing!

Asians age best. Actually Africans age well also. The darker the pigment, the younger they tend to look. They take longer to age.

Actually Japanese diet are way healthier than European ones. Fish and seafood are prevalent in Japanese cuisine. Also, fishes are famous for high protein and low calories. Compare to [greasy] Cantonese cuisines, Japanese cusines are indeed healthy. If you haven't heard about it but in Okinawa, because of western influences (American military) and McDannold is everywhere, reports discovered that there was a high increase of obese cases among Okinawan.

Fish is one of the healthiest things you can put in your body. I really don't understand people who don't eat fish. Yum...sushi...

The hair...that, too, is the only thing I'm proud of...I really need to cut it though.

Sure buddy, just make sure you pull out all that mercury out off your body too..
Lipoic acid is the best supplement for this purpose ..

I heard that the average lifespan may soon decrease because of a relatively high concentration of smokers in the younger people + stress and the introduction of fast foods such as McDonalds... something to think about

Thats aload of bunk, you dont really know much do you?

The Japanese diet as discussed by someone else, is seafood rich. Seafoods are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, something that is missing in land meat. Omega 3 fatty acids are much healthier than the fats in red meats as they are a source of HDL cholesterol (the good kind of cholesterol as opposed to LDL's). As a polyunsaturated fatty acid its much easier on the body than the saturated fats of the red meats. Its also rich in DHA's as well, which is good for you. Something my parents would use to force me to eat my unagi.

Its true, there are alot of Japanese smokers and fast food eaters. But thats pretty much similar across the world, so thats a common factor that can be eliminated. Which just leaves the main diet as the major contributer to long life.

Americans are more infatuated with excercise yes, but infatuation and actually completing the excercise is another matter. I mean American obesity reports have reached epidemic levels and doctors are trying to curb this 'diesase'.

It's something I've noticed just by looking at the ages at which famous Japanese actors died at; Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa lived to about 80 or thereabouts, as did many of his actors.

The movie Casshern has two actors playing major parts in their 70s; similar characters would be in their late 50s in an American movie.
