Like as in a singer or as a model? Yukie Nakama is beautiful and she actually sings too. But I don't think she's a great singer. Probably the equivalent to pop singers in America.

Ayumi Hamasaki

"Ayumi Hamasaki a.k.a. Ayu is Japan's chart topping Pop Princess. Ayumi Hamasaki is quickly becoming popular in the United States. In 1998 her first single "Poker Face" was released and the album it appeared on, "A Song For XX" has sold 7 million coppies. "

I haven't heard any of her songs yet. Or at least, I don't think so. Does anyone have a link?

Yukie Nakama

Beautiful. Most people don't care -boys and girls alike- if the person doesn't sing so well. It depends a lot on charisma. Looks help also. She's definitely pretty.

One of the prettiest I have ever seen...
I think I've seen her face before? Was she in Battle Royale I? Kawada's girlfriend?

OMg. She's freaking gorgeous. All of her pictures are soo pretty.
Dang..

my girlfriend is addicted to her like crack. she likes japanese music and korean, as well as filipino, very little. she's the first person, she's hmong, that listen to foreign language and music and that's the only thing she listens to and she's been addicted to these music since she was in mid school. she likes boa n i don't really know other asian pop. but yeah she loves hamasaki, she spends all her money just to buy asian pop and jpop cds.
supernovasp
Ayu's recent songs are getting better. The instrumental version of Moments is soooooooooo good

"addicted to her like crack"
now, I am really curious as to what she sings like--

why is she so popular??

I also used to like her pretty much, but now
I think her voice sounds kinda shrill to me compared to other singers. But maybe it's just because I listened to the same songs over and over again..

After listening to things too much, you can get tired of them...

I think that's true, at least.

yep - i tried a few of her songs a while ago and found out her voice seems to sound like a adolescent hamster being choked to death - but her voice is getting more mature and the song moments is nice - I like the flying humanoid remix version

for vocals i like tomiko van

she got weird names for her songs, cuz my girl bought one of her cds and it was all like full of weird song names.
NitaKang
Her eyes are really huge. I saw her on the Hey! Hey! Hey! show. Every moves she makes, she's so video-genic..and every shot they took of her..she looks good. I noticed there's also Ayu Dolls..it doesn't really look like her, except I guess the eyes on the dolls resembles her.

a lot of guys seem to be obsessed with ayumi, but i honestly don't get why. she kinda has a unique nose...cute body, but her singing is really strange.

I personally love BoA. She's a lot cuter and has great singing and dancing skills.
Gantz
What are some good BOA albums?
harutenshi
I think Ayumi is really pretty. I like her saong I think it's called Fly High or somethin' like that. It's really catchy. I need to listen to some of her new stuff.

What are some good BOA albums?

BoA* has only released 3 original Japanese albums so far ['Listen To My Heart', 'VALENTI', and 'LOVE&HONESTY'] and one remix album ['Peace B. Remixes']. I think that 'VALENTI' was a great album because it only had 3 singles [her most popular Japanese single to date 'VALENTI', her ballad 'Jewel Song', and a 'classic' dance/R&B style song 'Kiseki']. 'Listen To My Heart' was a decent album and had 6 singles in it [the title song 'Listen To My Heart', her debut song 'ID: Peace B', 'Every Heart ~Minna no Kimochi~', 'Amazing Kiss', 'Kimochi wa Tsutawaru', and 'Don't Start Now', I think], while 'LOVE&HONESTY' just has 4 singles ['Rock With You', 'Shine We Are!', 'Double', and 'Be The One']. Some of my fave songs from BoA* are Kiseki, Atlantis Girl, Milky Way, Amazing Kiss, and My Name [current Korean single and album].

ANYWAY, back on Ayu, I think she's a great JPop singer. Her voice and look has changed several times, but has always remained 'Japan's music Queen'. Some of her songs are good, but my favorites are 'Real Me', 'evolution', 'Boys & Girls', 'kanariya', and 'vogue'.

If you're looking for more singers besides Ayu, Utada Hikaru is pretty popular AND good.

I am sorry, but Ayumi is not pretty.

She is a makeup encrusted mutant with hamster cheeks.

In all seriousness, she is ghoulish and inhuman looking.

Rena Tanaka is gorgeous though, however, I do not believe she is a singer.

According to many japanese pop sites. Koda Kumi is beating Ayumi's sells with her latest album and single.

Koda Kumi is the quintessence (a good word!!!) of Jpop adulation! WOOOOOOOO. She actually has a voice, has a vibrato, no squeaky high soprano voice, and YES she can dance. Plus her music is INCREDIBLY addictive. VERY danceable songs.!!!!
JustOne10Minutes
Koda Kumi is really starting to become MORE popular now [even though she was popular to begin with]. I like 'Trust Your Love', 'Crazy 4 U', 'Come With Me', 'realEmotion//Sen no Kotoba', 'TAKE BACK', 'Love Across The Ocean', and 'The Meaning of Peace' [feat. BoA*] the best out of all her singles [though 'The Meaning of Peace' wasn't really a single, but it was a good song nonetheless].

Other than Koda, I'd recommend Utada Hikaru because she has a VERY great voice. Though some people think she's ultra-pop [she's one of Japan's most popular singers next to Ayu], she has VERY good singles//CDs. Her Japanese debut, 'First Love', sold over 8 million copies [though I think 'Distance' is better]. Some of my favorite songs from Hikki are 'Sakura Drops', 'Can You Keep A Secret?', 'Wait & See ~RISUKU~', 'hikari//Simple and Clean', 'First Love', 'Distance//Final Distance' [same song except 'Distance' is an upbeat pop song, while 'Final Distance' is more dramatic, slow, and full of sorrow in her singing. In 'Final Distance', the lyric at the end was changed, too], 'Automatic', and 'Colors'.
AtlantisStar
OH YES! I also recommend Misia. She has the best voice of any jpop singer. Her voice is very pure. And it's not high. She has excellence in tone, vibrato, and style.
moonflow
Besides her plastic surgery and shrill voice I respect Ayumi's lyrics and how she adds substance to her music.

I can kind of tell Ayumi is one intelligent person and the motivation she gives to her audience. Instead of always focusing on the negative she gives subtle positive insights in her lyrics.

Anyways, my favorite song from her is Surreal and Monochrome biggrin.gif

Surreal~

Choosing only the things you like
isn't irresponsible.
If you can't find anything you like
then why accept the responsibility?
I take only the possibilities that I'm ready to accept.

If it's something you don't need then
compassion is of no use at all.
If it's something important then
pain will probably accompany it.
Loneliness that you feel together is worse
than a loneliness that you feel
by yourself.

No matter what loneliness comes,
no matter what pain you feel,
you mustn't close your eyes to it.
Because even if you lose all your
words, even if you say it doesn't matter,
if you stumble
it will be there to help you up.
That's what kind of thing it is.

Ah, that promise we made that day.
I don't want to keep it by myself.
Ah, that far off dream we talked of throughout the night.
I don't want to make it come true by myself.
I can't tell anyone. I want to tell someone, that
that person is more important to me than anyone else.

la la la-
In a nonexistant place
I stand as I am.
Please be yourself.
That's how I want you to be.

la la la-
In a nonexistant place
I stand as I am.
Please be yourself.
I want you to be that way forever.
FantasyClover
I used to be a huge fan of Ayumi. However, after a year I got extremely irritated by her voice. Her voice was equivalent to the sound of a dying squrriel. I dont think she's like the ultimate asian pop princess. BoA is SO much prettier. Ayu looks like a big balloon, or a big headed alien with abnormally large eyes. She probably had surgery or something because I saw a pic of her before she got so famous and she looked really different. Also, I have to agree that she wears WAAAAAAAAY too much makeup. You never see her without makeup anymore. BoA is like extremely natural and has a better voice.
NyczNo0dlez
rnt dey all surgery facez. -_-?
oem
Can anyone post a picture of Ayu before plastic surgery?
Keymaker
So yeah, only one person (too lazy to double check) actually posted a favorite song by her. So I'm going to contribute my two cents.
