I don't know of any filipino being potrayed in anime, but a few in mangabooks. There are some filipino boxers competing in Hajime no Ippo and Eikichi Onizuka from G.T.O get's to meet a filipino salesman in the G.T.O prequels. That's all I can think of.

Given that very little is known about Bishop's past before he appeared in the present time, much has been hinted at and speculated about regarding his origin. One theory that has prevailed is that Bishop is one of Storm's descendants. Some questioned this theory's legitimacy once Bishop and Storm began to have a romantic relationship. Others have argued the possibility that a relationship between Storm and Bishop in the present might lead to descendants, one of which would become Bishop himself someday and creating a predestination paradox.

In an early issue of Generation X, Bishop becomes disoriented and mistakes M for his mother. It has also been indicated that the Australian aboriginal mutant Gateway is his great-grandfather although it is not certain. [citation needed] Interestingly, Gateway was M's mentor prior to her joining Generation X. The matter of M being Bishop's mother is still speculation, as it has yet to be confirmed.

In the Marvel Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, a history is provided to explain Bishop's origin. It writes:

"Lucas Bishop was born in the late 21st Century A.D. of an alternate future timeline in which mutant-hunting robot Sentinels had taken control of North America....Bishop's parents escaped to America shortly before the island nation of Australia was destroyed in a tactical nuclear strike. They were soon captured and interred in a mutant relocation camp in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, New York. There, Bishop and his sister Shard were born and, like other mutants, they were branded with 'M' tattoos over their right eyes for identification."
This sheds some light onto the possibility of Bishop and Shard being Aboriginal Australians, their great-grandfather being Gateway. However, back in 1991 during the early international releases of X-Men, official trading cards from Marvel state that he is of American nationality but of Filipino ethnicity (the card says he was born in Tondo, an impoverished district of Manila, the Philippines' capital city), which is not unlikely as Whilce Portacio, Bishop's creator is himself half Filipino. Many fans do consider him to be African American as that was his intented ethinicity during his first appearances. Bishop is one of the few black characters in the marvel universe.

I think this guy is an African American who was born in the Philippines. I never even heard of this guy until now.

Battery, Eleki

Country: Philippines
Gym: Battery
Weight Class: Junior Light
Style: Outboxer
Record: 12-0-2, 10 KO's
Titles:
Filipino Junior Lightweight Champion
First Manga Appearance: Volume 58 Round 525*
First Anime Appearance: N/A

Background Information -

A Filipino fighter that Kimura fights against on the undercard for Takamura and David Eagle's WBC Middleweight Title Match. He is very technically sound and proficient, much like Kimura, but only a stronger. He wins the early rounds of their first fight, but Kimura finds out that Eleki is weak in the body. Kimura drops him a few times and the first fight ends up a draw. According to Takamura's bet with Kimura, if Kimura lost he had to get a hair cut like Eleki. Since he drew, Takamura went easy on him and agreed that it was acceptable that Kimura could just do a lightning bolt on one side that could be be covered up.

The two fight again on Takamura's first WBC Middleweight Title defense again Richard Fox. This time Eleki came prepared with a tough body, but Kimura can still only draw with him. I look for Eleki and Kimura to fight again somewhere down the road, possibly on the OPBF stage.

First Manga Appearance: Volume Round

Miyata Sr. was winning on points, but still attempted the JOLT! Counter on the spot to Randy. He thought that Randy was a southpaw, but he was really an ambidexterous boxer whose left and right were both of equal strength. He quickly changed his stance when Miyata Sr. threw the JOLT! and countered with a straight of his own that broke the jaw of Miyata Sr.

His son, Randy Boy Jr. will be fighting against Miyata next for the OPBF Featherweight Title.

Boy, Randy Jr.
IPB Image
Country: Philippines
Weight Class: Feather
Style: Ambidexterous
Record: 1-?-?, 1 KO
Titles:
OPBF Interim Featherweight Champion
First Manga Appearance: Volume 71 Round 661
First Anime Appearance: N/A

Background Information -

A mysterious boxer who is managed by Mr. Sakaguchi. He was previously ranked 2nd in the OPBF (one behind Ippo), but now he is the Interim OPBF Champion. While Miyata was healing, Randy Boy and Ippo were going to fight to see who could be the OPBF Interim Champ, but Kamogawa turned it down thinking that they were already going to fight Miyata anyway. It turns out that Mr. Sakaguchi has probably greased the wheels and forced the OPBF to make Miyata fight Randy first anyway.

There is a really good chance that Randy Boy Jr. is the son of the boxer who broke Miyata Sr.'s jaw during his OPBF Featherweight Title match. Randy tells Miyata that it is their destiny to fight. Also when Miyata first saw Randy he obviously looked familiar to him, so he might have been remembering back to that match.

Miyata was going to relinquish the belt and fight Ippo before moving onto the world anyway, but he then discovered who Randy was. Randy is the son of the man who ended the career of Miyata Sr. Like his father he is an ambidexterious boxer. Miyata will be defending the OPBF Title against him. Mr. sakaguchi has already made it known that he wants Ippo to fight against Randy, "after Randy beats Miyata". Sakaguchi is confident in Randy's victory over Miyata.

Yarudora Series Vol3: Sampaguita
QUOTE
SAMPAGUITA

—by Kenneth Lee

The third installment of Sony's genre-defining YARUDORA series is SAMPAGUITA. While the other games in the YARUDORA series are excellent in their own right, it is this third game in the series that attracted my attention in the first place when they were initially announced earlier last year. And the reason? Shirow Masamune. The talented artist and creator of many cool manga and anime such as APPLESEED, DOMINION: TANK POLICE, and GHOST IN THE SHELL, is also responsible for the character designs and illustrations for this new game.
What sets SAMPAGUITA (the autumn title) apart from the other two YARUDORA games is the unique artistic style and intriguing story. Like DOUBLE CAST and KISETSU O DAKISHIMETE (the summer and spring titles), SAMPAGUITA is an interactive anime game somewhat similar to classic arcade games like DRAGON'S LAIR and SPACE ACE. Games like these enjoy much greater popularity in Japan than they ever did in North America, and they've evolved to become much more complex. They have generally replaced the "twitch factor" of making instantaneous decisions with turn-based and menu driven formats, allowing the player to think about what to do next. In addition, after beating this game you can save your endings to memory and watch the entire anime again as one long movie! What's even sweeter is that Sony even included the option for 16x9 widescreen anamorphic picture viewing!
SAMPAGUITA's name comes from the Tagalog name for a fragrant flower that grows throughout Southeast Asia. Like the flower, the central female character in this game, Maria Santos, is a sweet, exotic "flower" lost in Japan, and her mysterious background must be uncovered. I don't want to give any more away, since the story and its intricate plot twists are the main reason to play the game. Besides, there are 28 endings (one more than the previous YARUDORA games), comprised of 3 good, 5 normal, and 20 bad endings. Suffice it to say that SAMPAGUITA is an action/romance game, and fans who've been waiting for a little more spice in the YARUDORA series can finally get it here.
Unfortunately, this also highlights the game's weakness in the lack of a blockbuster budget. Make no mistake, the YARUDORA series as a whole is excellent. For the amount of animation that is necessary in a 2 hour story (as long as an anime movie), and to have 28 different endings, Sony Japan has done a great job. The overall quality is very high, but this story has some high-powered action sequences that just beg to be "fully animated" with many frames per second, similar to the TALES OF DESTINY opening. The YARUDORA series has been extremely effective in bringing drama, mystery, and romance to life. But action-based stories often contain many sequences requiring more frames of animation per second in order to smoothly portray swift movement, explosions, etc. And so it is with SAMPAGUITA. But don't get me wrong, this is my favorite game of the YARUDORA series, and overall it is highly enjoyable.
Perhaps the highlight of SAMPAGUITA is the combination of Shirow Masamune's gorgeous art with the ubiquitous "ichiban" seiyuu (#1 voice actress), Hayashibara Megumi. Here, she does an outstanding job of delivering a shy, frightened Filipino girl, Maria Santos. In addition, the music throughout the game is excellent, with ambient tracks that set the mood perfectly.
SAMPAGUITA is yet another great game in Sony Japan's YARUDORA series of Playstation games. Like the previous two games, SAMPAGUITA provides an intriguing plot, wonderful characters, and high replay value with 28 different endings. In addition, it encapsulates a beautiful synergy of two of the highest powers of anime: Shirow Masamune's gorgeous art with Hayashibara Megumi's stunning voice acting. One can only hope that more of such creative efforts will continue in the future, as there is only one YARUDORA game remaining; the winter title, YUKIWARI NO HANA. Imagine seeing more of Shirow Masamune, or Fujishima Kousuke (AA! MEGAMI-SAMA), or Yuuki Nobuteru (RECORD OF LODOSS WAR, ESCAFLOWNE, BATTLE ANGEL) in a game with a higher budget and together with the best seiyuu. The possibilities are endless.

That's sucks man. Do you know the reason why they changed his ethnicity from Filipino to Argentine? They must have thought Juan Rico being white would be more marketable. Damn that pisses me off madgo.gif
